The Mourning Period

Mason POV

It’s been two weeks since I heard the crushing sound of Evander’s neck snapping. My friend was gone. He was really gone and there was nothing I could do to bring him back.

That first night, I was escorted of Alpha Godric’s land, I feared a retaliation was not far behind. Maybe he was playing some game letting me go. Giving me false hope and then killing me before I made it home.

Guilt and heartache ran through me, hand and hand. This was my fault. I led Evander to Godrics land. I’m the one who said we should go and see the girls. Partly because I missed Audrey. And the other part was that I hated seeing Evander so broken over a girl who wasn’t his mate.

I mean sure, she looked a lot like his mate, but she wasn’t her. And she never would be.

I didn’t return to the pack that first night. I pulled over and slept at a hotel, though I didn’t get a once of sleep. I kept tossing and turning replaying everything that happened.

Evander was dead. And I was Alpha.
