Chapter 44: My mother

Ruth found out the truth about her birth from Mrs Brown and she became upset with her for taking her away from her true parents. She left home and ended up in her usual hideout, the motel unaware Mrs Brown had followed her out.

In the motel, she found the rest of the story but she was forced to stay in the motel because of the rain. Mrs Brown was out in the rain, standing In front of someone's shop to shield herself from the rain while back in Nick's apartment, he was in bed with Katherine.

It rained all through the night till the early hours of Sunday morning. She opened her eyes and stared at the window. She got up from the bed and sat briefly on the bed with her feet on the ground and her head resting in her palms.

"Gosh, my head," she complained to herself
