You know sometimes when you would realize that you had said too much and would be quite unable to take them back because spilled words could not be picked back up?

This was one of those times for River. She wished she could take it back.

“Just pretend I never said anything," she provided.

Taking a shaky step back, she turned to leave as she was more than desperate to escape the suffocating weight of her unexpected confession.

But Gonzalo’s hand clamped around her arm, halting her escape. "Don't," His voice was firm and clear.

His Alpha aura gripped her, nudging her to obey that command. She did not want to obey him. Who was he to order her around? He was not her Alpha. To hell with him.

She whirled around and met his gaze. What she met, however, was a far cry from what she was expecting. As serious as his gaze was, his features were softened.

Time and age seemed to have nothing on Gonzalo. By the stars, he looked just the way she remembered from seven years ago.
