Sixty Eight

Asher’s POV

Okay, maybe we needed to put a stop to this line of talks, so I raised my hands up in surrender.

"Look, I... I'm sorry," I said, running a hand through my hair, feeling the weight of her stare as she looked at me. "I just... I needed to talk to you, away from all those people.” I said, hoping that would change things a little and we would stop barking at each other.

But there was no such thing. “Needed to talk or needed to control the situation?" May's words were like ice, and they cut through me sharper than any knife could.

I swallowed hard, trying to gather my thoughts. This was not how I had envisioned this night going, not in the slightest. But here we were, standing in the dim light of my bedroom, a place I had never thought would serve as our fighting space.
