Micah POV As soon as he was gone, Queen Winnie placed the protection spell back on the palace and we all started walking back to our wing of the castle. As we were walking away, I could still hear the screaming man. I turned to King Izzoth, “What are we going to do with him?” King Izzoth waved him off, “He’ll be dead in a few minutes.” We continued walking to our wing and met mom, Adele and Bridget in the living room. I suggested, “Why don’t we teleport back to the house and see if we can get mom and Adele to make some lunch for us?” King Izzoth smiled, “By all means, we should go.” Mom, Adele, and Bridget stood and we all held hands as we blinked and opened our eyes to see we were home. Mom and Adele walked into the kitchen and started making lunch while the rest of us walked into the conference room. As soon as the door is closed, I hear my mom start crying. We all run to the kitchen and mom is on the phone. I hear her cry and tell the person on the other end of the line, “We will
Adele POV Oh, my goddess! King Uther is gone because of me. That is the only thought that keeps running through my head. Their whole plan goes in one ear and out the other for me because I feel responsible. It’s bad enough I got Gabe killed while he was trying to help me, but now I have King Uther’s death on my conscience. I don’t know how I will ever be able to live with myself. Everyone has told me it’s not my fault and Princess Chloe has told me they don’t hold me responsible, but if it weren’t for me, the dark warlocks wouldn’t have been anywhere near him. Nobody can convince me otherwise. I just wanted to go hide in my room and contemplate my existence on this earth. I had just lifted myself out of the black abyss that I knew I was headed into when the doorbell rang again. I walked to the door and opened it, finding Carrie standing there. She asked, “How are you, hon? I hear you are having a difficult time. I came out to see if you want to talk about it.” I sighed, “Let me guess
Dad responded, “Baby girl, I would rather you stay here with us. Someone is going to need to stay behind to take care of your mom. She is going to need you to make sure she gets her medicine on time. We will both be very busy with our magic. You will need to make sure your mother and I eat and hydrate too. Would you mind doing that?” I nodded, “I can do that. I understand why you don’t want me outside this house. I do have one question.” Mom asked, “What’s that?” I asked, “Is the back yard protected like the house is?” Mom shook her head, “It’s not, but we can make sure it gets the same protection.” I asked, “Would you please do that?” Mom and dad nodded and I smiled, “Thank you.” Queen Winnie appeared and I saw her in the back yard, casting a spell. I smiled, knowing that she was protecting the yard for me. I would love to go out there and pick blackberries for a cobbler or muffins. Carrie walked up beside me as I watched Queen Winnie, “You are wanting to feel safe going out there, a
Bridget and I started macerating our berries, then I asked, “How are you with peeling onions?” She responded with a raised eyebrow, “I burn frozen pizza.” That made me laugh out loud and mom asked, “What’s so funny?” I laughed, “I’m trying to teach Bridget how to cook. When I asked her how she is with peeling onions, she told me she burns frozen pizza.” Mom laughed as she put a comforting hand on Bridget’s shoulder, “It’s okay, sweetie. We all have to start somewhere. She’s been cooking since she was tall enough to stand on a stool to see what is in a pot. She’s been baking even longer.” I smiled, “We are making a beef roast for supper tonight.” Mom smiled, “Sounds amazing.” Then she looked into the bowls with the macerating fruit, “Let me guess… Blackberry muffins and blueberry cobbler.” I nodded and laughed while mom explained, “She hates blueberries, so she puts them in things she won’t want to eat.” Bridget laughed as mom walked away. I took a knife and an onion and got Bridget’s a
Dad growled, “I don’t want you anywhere near the fighting. You’ve been through enough and who is to say that Dune wasn’t acting on his father’s orders when he took you and tried to forcefully mark you?” Mom agreed, “I would rather have you here, in the house, taking care of me and your father. We are too weak to fight out there. We will be using our magic.” I contributed, “But I have the elements of wind and water. I can create tornadoes or a sheet of ice under their feet.” Mom looked at dad, “That’s something she can do from a distance.” I smiled, “I can also make ice spears.” I started with my hands closed and spread them wide, forming an ice spear in the space between them, “See?” Mom smiled, “You must be storing more waves than I ever could.” I shrugged, “Each generation is stronger than the last.” Mom agreed, “That is true with werewolves.” I sat at the table, just thinking to myself, just wondering if I was going to get to test my theory. I wondered if ice spears would kill a wa
As I continued hurling spears and daggers into red, glowing, eyes, a thought occurred to me; how am I going to do this when daylight hits in just a few hours? I’m not going to be able to see glowing eyes. I went to the kitchen and grabbed a blackberry muffin for some instant energy. I sat at the table, eating my muffin and contemplating life when Billy sat next to me, “How are you holding up, little one?” I chuckled, “About as well as can be expected for a broken warrior.” Billy asked, “Why are you broken?” I explained, “I thought killing Dune would stop my night terrors and flashbacks, but I just added to it. Now I keep hearing him ask why I didn’t just let him mark me.” Billy sighed, “I can’t say I understand how you feel, but I do know that Dark Warlocks are sadistic beasts. They do everything they can to cause as much terror, pain and anguish as possible. What you are doing right now is exactly what they were aiming for.” I sighed, “I know you’re right, but it’s so hard not to play
Micah looked on the floor and found the dead warlocks, “What did you kill them with?” I formed an ice dagger and handed it to him, “This. I heard them and Singarti told me there were two in there… one on either side of the door. So, I opened the door and killed them both.” Micah smiled, “That’s my sis. A real warrior.” I just chuckled and shook my head, “Can you guys get the bodies out of here so I can get a little sleep?” Micah and Zach each took a body while Alex checked my closet, bathroom and every space that a person could hide. When he walked out, he smiled at me, “All clear, sis. Not that you couldn’t have handled this by yourself.” I laughed, “Thanks. Would you ask Queen Winnie to come in?” He nodded and left. Queen Winnie knocked on my door, even though it was already open, and I waved her in. I asked, “Is there a way to check for dark warlocks who are invisible? I just killed two who were hiding by my door, waiting to grab me.” Winnie asked, “How did they get in here? Even i
I smiled, “Sweet! It’s working! So, does anyone know how the spell stopped working to begin with?” Billy replied, “They found a small opening in the shield just outside Bridget’s room. The spell was cast years ago, so it was bound to weaken at some point. We just simply didn’t realize how long ago it was. You kids weren’t even a thought yet when that spell was cast, so it was time. It’s even stronger this time because Winnie had some help.” I smiled, “Ya’ll are awesome! But I still think we are going to sleep on the sectional until this thing is over. It might reduce my nightmares, and Bridget shouldn’t be climbing those stairs until her concussion is better.” Bridget started to get up, “I’m fine. I just have a small headache.” She stood up and got dizzy. I jumped up, “No, you are not fine. You need to take it easy.” I walked to the kitchen thinking that I should make some chicken soup for Bridget. When I got there, I found Grandma Abby already working on it. I hugged her, “You read
