-Willow- I had gotten the impression that Cain had decided to leave for a while simply to explore the world. I thought he might be looking for more hunting grounds, but now he revealed to me that his father had kicked him out. That I hadn’t expected, and I couldn’t help but continue to look at him as we sat there together. I wasn’t sure what to even say. I knew he had asked us to change the topic, but now I was quite intrigued. I knew I shouldn’t ask, though. I could see it on his face. He didn’t want to talk more about it, and so I pressed my lips together, focusing on my empty plate in front of me instead. “Sure, we can talk about something else.” Cain nodded, satisfied, yet we both remained quiet, unable to decide what would be best to talk about. We both struggled to get any words out and simply remained silent for a good while, sitting beside each other. We were destined to be together, and yet no words wanted to leave our mouths because we knew how complicated this was. Neith
-Cain- Willow was fluffing up the pillows and truly making herself at home in the bed. It was rather fun to watch, and as I came out of the bathroom, I remained in the doorway, leaning against the doorframe as I watched her. She looked so good with her long, blond hair down now, and she had changed to an oversized t-shirt to sleep in. She was beautiful, no matter what. I couldn’t deny I had been given quite the gift. However, I understood Willow’s frustration. She was right. My reputation hadn’t been tarnished in the same way hers had. They didn’t really view me any differently than before, but sleeping in separate rooms wasn’t going to change the gossip. I believed it was going to make it worse because people would think we didn’t share any connection. Why else would she be sleeping in another room? No, this was a better arrangement, even if I had to sleep on the couch for a night, then so be it. But I wouldn’t stay there indefinitely. Being mates meant being close together, and I
-Willow- I stretched my body, feeling incredibly rested. Yesterday had been so stressful, and the night leading up to yesterday, I had barely slept a wink, knowing I was going to get mated to the wrong brother. Tonight, it felt like I could just sleep. Truly, I felt incredible, and I nuzzled my face closer to the pillow, moaning a little. Why was I feeling so good? Maybe because you’re in a room surrounded by our Alpha’s scent. Doesn’t he smell good? my wolf asked. I sat up fast, realizing what was going on. This room didn’t carry that strong of a scent of Cain yet, since we had just moved in, but his stuff and the fact he had slept on the couch in the same room as me ensured his scent did spread in the room. Since we were mates, it was natural that it hit me hard, but, Goddess, I had not expected it to be that strong. “No, he smells awful,” I murmured, my wolf growling at me for insulting what she considered to be our Alpha. Rude! “The truth!” “What is?” Cain poked his head int
-Willow- I was surprised by Cain’s reaction. I had not expected him to have any problem with me judging his past. I mean, he couldn’t even remember the number himself, and if I asked him to name some of the women, I bet he couldn’t even do that. Now, of course, I wasn’t going to dictate how anyone lived their lives. It was completely up to them, but that didn’t mean that I wanted an alphawhore for a mate. We could have preferences, but Cain certainly wasn’t mine. He might look like Carter, except for the difference in build now and this tiny scar on Cain’s cheek, but they were like night and day. However, his reaction was certainly not what I expected. “Why?” I asked. “Why does it matter if I do?” “Maybe because if you judge me, it means you look down on me, and it will be harder for you to let me close,” he said. “I don’t want my mate not to like me. You don’t have to love me right away, but I don’t want you not to like me.” I had not expected Cain to be so truthful. To me, he ha
-Cain- After showering, I was sure I would still find Willow in our bedroom, but she was gone. I went to dress before I began searching the house for her. She had to be somewhere inside. I walked downstairs, where I heard voices, and I followed the sound to a living room, where a new she-wolf had appeared, sitting in front of Willow. I remembered her, she was hard not to take notice of because she always dressed so differently. Yet the sight of Eva did not make me happy. “What’s going on here?” I asked. “I invited a friend over,” Willow told me calmly. “Without discussing it with me?” “Excuse me?” Willow asked offended. “She is my friend.” “Willow,” I sighed, shaking my head as my mate didn’t understand the seriousness of her actions. “Welcome home, Cain,” Eva retorted, offended as well by my words. “Eva…” “Speak to my friend like that again, and you might not have balls anymore,” she threatened, taking a bite of the chocolate chip cookie in her hand. “Did you just threaten
-Willow- “Could you not look at me like that?” I whispered, fiddling with a pillow I had in my lap. I couldn’t look at Eva because of how embarrassed I was. I couldn’t even explain to myself what had happened. One moment, I was just so furious with Cain for even suggesting Eva had anything to do with me getting poisoned, and in the next, his warm lips were on mine, and the only thought I had in my head was that I wanted his clothes off. I had been told how powerful the dynamic was between mates, but this was on a level I could barely comprehend myself. “You would have fucked in that hallway, had I not stopped you,” Eva scolded me, making my cheeks burn. “I would not!” “Yes, you would have, and then I would have to listen to your moaning and you crying out Cain’s name while he would probably grunt like a damn animal.” “Could you not make such a vivid picture?” I asked her, finally meeting her eyes. “Why? Does it turn you on?” “What?!” I exclaimed, my face going bright red as her
-Willow- I woke up to the most incredible feeling I had ever tried feeling. Feather-light touches ran across my neck and naked arms, making me smile in my half-woken state and feel so warm that even a small giggle left me. Soon I felt a warm breath against my neck, and lips descended just for a moment to stroke over the skin, making me moan. “You have the sweetest giggle,” a dark voice whispered in my ear. My eyes shot open, and I turned, seeing Cain behind me. I let out a surprised scream and pushed away from him, sliding to the other side of the bed. “Cain!” I scolded him, seeing him look at me as if he couldn’t see why I would yell at him. “What are you doing in bed with me?” “We had an agreement.” “No, you stated something, leaving no room for discussion,” I reminded him. “Because I told you it was a topic I wouldn’t discuss. It’s instinctual,” he explained. “Besides, you didn’t seem to mind.” “Because I was sleeping! I went to a separate bedroom to get away from you!” I gr
-Willow- I waited three days more, Cain and I were not really speaking to each other. He was busy working on getting the territory safe, and more pack members were joining us slowly. He even came to bed very late, but after I tried sleeping in a different room again and he carried me back, I knew it was pointless, so I had accepted my fate. Yet every night I built a pillow wall between us, making sure there was distance. Cain was angry the first time he saw it, but he preferred the wall over me trying to go to sleep somewhere else, so he didn’t break it down. But I still needed answers. I had asked one of the servants to purchase me a test. Everyone knew Cain and I had slept together anyway, and so it was no surprise I would need one. She had gotten me multiple boxes, knowing I would need them, yet the wait was agonizing. I kept walking back and forth in the bathroom, waiting for that damn timer to go off. My wolf was pacing inside me too, but while I hoped for it to be negative, I kn
