I turned her around, keeping my hands on my shoulders, being so close to her always reminded me how tiny she really was. I pulled her backwards a little so her back was leaning against my chest, “if you don’t want to learn about arrows? Is there another defensive skill you want to learn?”

“I just want to know why I’m doing any of this,” her small voice called out in what was almost a whisper. No one except from her would dare to demand an explanation from me, and no one but her would receive one.

“You’re not just any ordinary wolf,” I told her, “you have something that’s been extinct for a long time. You are a healer.”

“What?!” I couldn’t see her face but I could imagine her confused expression.

“Healers have been extinct for years, it’s a blessing and a curse and every pack would want to have you for themselves, news spread, hence, the need to train to protect yourself.”
