Half-truth

Drake cursed himself in his head.

'What a pickle' he thought.

He can understand what Nyra must be thinking now. His silence is not helping anything either. 

He cannot tell her the complete truth, or he cannot deny having a mate.

She is demanding to know where his mate is. He cannot say, it's you.

He decided to tell a version of the truth, which is not a lie. He cannot keep lying to her and make their situation even worst.
