CHAPTER THIRTY"SIX

CHAOS

"Before doing something he would regret later, Túlio got up from Shay's couch and left without even saying goodbye, leaving her bewildered. He couldn't go to the hotel he stayed the night before because he had overdone it with beer. He decided to face his grandmother instead.

Even when turning off his motorcycle at the gate, he saw her turning on the outside light. As he leaned the motorcycle against the wall, she started speaking:

"I can't believe you're coming here at this hour! Look, I'm not going to live much longer, in fact, I'm going to die soon because you're accelerating my death..."

She kept talking while he undressed and entered the bathroom. She continued talking while he took a shower and even when he lay down in his little room in her backyard.

"Maybe I'll die well before you, grandma," he blurted out with his eyes already closed, knowing that if he said that, she would fall silent, and that's what happened.

"What are you trying to say?" she pushed him to sit on the
