Chapter 59

(Juliet’s POV)

It was nighttime. I went around the house to check if all the doors and windows were properly locked. After confirming that they were, I took Eric to his room and read him a book till he fell asleep.

I went back to my room, deliberating about what happened in the evening. After series of deliberation and conviction, I picked up my phone and placed a call over to Jason. Although part of me felt like holding back, I knew I had to get it done because of my son.

“Hello.” His voice rang in my ears through the phone.

Shit. Why does hearing his voice feel so awkward? I knew what to say, but why was I feeling so reluctant to say it. Get yourself together, Juliet.

“Good evening.” I greeted, keeping it formal. “It is I…Juliet.”

In the background, I heard him spring up to his feet quickly as if in a shock. He was definitely not expecting my call. His voice broke, coming out as a crack when he pronounced my name. “J-j-Juliet?

“Is it really you, Juliet?” He asked.
