Chapter 2: Introductions

There were four boys already seated at the table, none of them smiled, they just looked over at us before looking back at one another in silence.

"Why don't you sit next to Jace?" he said, pointing to one of the boys.

Walking over I took a seat next to the boy. He had dark brown hair that looked almost black that was a little mess sitting on top of his head like a mop, almost as if he had just gotten out of bed.

Sitting down silently I watch as my mother sits on one end of the table and Mr. Pierce sits on the other.

"Boys please introduce yourselves to Amara" he spoke softly as maids came out with trays of food and began placing them down in front of us.

"I'm Jace" the boy next to me said and I sent him a small smile in an attempt to please my mother but no reaction was sent back as he turned away from me.

"Julian" another said from across the table, looking over I see another boy taking a sip of his drink nonchalantly.

His dark red hair fell down a bit lower but it was gelled back for the most part except for a few strains that seemed to fall out lightly covering his face as he placed the cup down on the table.

He didn't look at me even once before he began eating his food with no expression.

"Link" another said, catching my attention, his hair was a dark brunette with what looked like a bit of gray peaking through depending on how the light hit it.

We made eye contact and for a moment I thought I froze until he rolled his eyes and looked down towards his plate, like he was already annoyed with me without us even having a conversation.

"And I'm Ru" the last boy stated as he raised an eyebrow at me, his expression was cold as he looked me up and down his bleached blonde hair matching his icy exterior.

"It's nice to meet you all" I said politely and I heard Jace mumble under her breath.

"Oh what joy" he said in a sarcastic tone causing me to take a deep breath before biting my tongue.

Be on your best behavior, I reminded myself as the urge to say something back fought on the tip of my tongue.

"So" Mr. Pierce said as he began to cut his steak at the other end of the table.

Picking up my cup I begin taking a sip of water when the next words cause me to almost choke.

"Are you excited for your new sister to move in tonight?" Mr. Pierce asked his sons.

The water feels like it lodges in my throat as I begin to cough, choking on the water in surprise.

Putting the cup down I force the water down my throat before coughing more.

Holding my hand over my mouth I lean down a little so they don't see my face.

Catching my breath I looked over to Mr. Pierce, who seemed a bit worried "my apologies" I said quietly.

"Are you alright?" he asked while raising an eyebrow.

"Yes, I'm sorry" I replied while leaning back in my seat a bit.

"But, umm, what do you mean moving in tonight?" I ask before lightly shifting my eyes over towards my mother who glared at me harshly.

I could see the disgust and resentment in her eyes as she focused on me.

"Well the movers are getting your stuff from your house now of course" he said like it was the most plausible thing to happen.

"I uh" I said before shaking my head and standing up "may I be excused" I ask and he nods.

Nodding to myself I began to walk away "where are you going" my mother asked causing my body to stop in its tracks.

"I just need some air" I whispered while looking back at her to see her jaw tightly clenched as annoyance passed through her eyes.

"Be quick" she grunted out before she looked at Mr. Pierce with a soft smile.

Taking it as my moment I quickly rush out of the room and head straight to the front door, my body pulling me to go outside as soon as possible.

Making it out the door I take large breaths as I step down the steps before plopping down on the last of them.

Placing my head in my hands I breath in and out slowly "what the fuck" I whisper harshly before shooting my head up and I begin laughing to myself a little.

"So you didn't know huh" I heard a voice from behind me causing me to look back to see the boy that was sitting next to me at the dinner table.

"Where'd you get that impression?" I said sarcastically, causing him to scoff.

He was already a dick and I didn’t want to be stuck anywhere near him or the others.

"Well if you're gonna be a bitch coming out here was stupid of me" he said as he came closer and sat down next to me.

"Well what gave it away, was it the fact that I left or the fact that I almost choked on water?'' I ask while looking over at him, causing him to roll his eyes.

"Sorry" I whispered.

"You do that a lot" he said back while looking at me but I continued to stare forward.

"Do what a lot" I ask.

"Apologize" he whispered back.

"You'll get used to it I guess" I said with a small laugh.

"So when did you find out?" he asked and I looked at him this time, making eye contact.

He had light brown eyes, almost like caramel and honey swirling together.

"You don't have to be nice to me" I stated no emotion shown on my face as my tone grew bored catching him off guard.

"What" he asked looking a bit confused.

"You don't have to be nice to me, you're not obligated too, hell you don't even have to talk to me unless your dads around if that's how you wanted it to be" I stated and he looked at me a bit shocked.

"You don't want me here, none of you do, and I didn’t exactly know I’d be stuck with any of you either" I said and I didn't realize the footsteps coming down the stairs.

"You don't have to pretend to be nice, or like you do want me here or you wanna get to know me, I didn't even know about any of you or your father until a few hours ago" I nodded a bit to myself before looking forward again.

"You don't have to pretend to care, trust me I'd prefer if you didn't" I said in a whisper.

"Wow" Jace said from next to me while taking a big breath.

"Can't you just take that he was trying to be nice?" a voice cut out from behind us, causing me to look back and see the rest of them.

The one that spoke was the red head named Julian; his expression was cold like before, maybe even a bit worse.

"You’re lucky he even came out here to talk to you in the first place" Link stated looking at me with light disgust, a scowl etched onto his features.

"Don't be ungrateful, especially because you don't belong here" Ru stated, causing me to take a deep breath.

"You're right that was rude of me" I said while standing up and turning around so my body would face all of the boys.

"I'm sorry I was honest, how could I be so horrible" I said while shrugging my shoulders.

"Thank you for trying, but you shouldn't have to force anything" I said towards Jace in true honesty.

"I do appreciate it though" I stated with a forced smile before walking up the stairs past them.

"You and your mom aren't close huh" Jace said while standing up a sarcastic smirk on his face as he looked at me with an eyebrow raised.

Looking at him, I look him up and down ignoring the question before walking inside just in time for the moving trucks to pull up.
