Chapter 25
It had been three days since our trip to Phoenix. It felt good to see Kris again. Creed and I never spoke about what our relationship meant after that day. I knew his reasons for trying not to get too close to me but every time I saw him I felt my body gravitate to him.
It's like I had blinders when he was in my line of vision I focused on nothing but him and for a moment he looked at me the same until he came back to a sense of reality and walked away. That part always felt like my heart was being torn into a million tiny pieces.
I hated the fact that he pushed me away. It was agony I never felt before. Maybe it was a wolf-mate thing that I wanted to be as close to him as possible all the time but he wouldn't let me. He would run away if I got too close to him.
There were times he would leave the house and shift into his wolf and run into the forest. I didn't know whether to be amused at his creativity or offended.

I panted as I tried to keep up with Hera. We were running along a trail in the forest. It was a part of my training to strengthen my core. I woke up with my head throbbing as if someone had whacked me with a baseball bat over it last night. I looked around the dark room my eyes adjusting to the minimal lighting. A week had passed with everyone falling into a comfortable routine. I sat outside with May and Mia while I watched them play peekaboo. A few months later and our packhouse was rebuilt even bigger and stronger than before. He killed them all. It was never in his nature to take any prisoners. He thought nothing of it as he ran his blade across the necks of the young and old. It was unusually quiet at the diner due to the relentless storm that raged on outside.
