IZZY POV
It took me twelve minutes to get ready.
Initially, I decided I wasn’t going to go with her, and I figured she could drag me out if it was so important to her. I would fight her if I had to, I decided. I wasn’t going to go do what she wanted me to do. I sat on a stool in my bathroom with my arms crossed over my chest, preparing to be stubborn. I lost my nerve at the seven-minute mark. I rushed to put on my clothes and tie up my hair, giving my reflection a rueful look. What can I say? I got my stubbornness from my mom, and I knew her well enough to know that she would battle me to get her way. I was too tired for that.
Fortunately, she was preoccupied with a text she had gotten to give me more than just a glance when I came out of my bedroom. I was glaring at her, but she seemed very unconcerned.
