I spent the next thirty minutes of my life—not sure if I wasted it—listening to Kane and the kids’ explanation of how they found the kitten. It was a little unbelievable and I wanted to conclude that they went to get it and then came up with this bizarre story but when I look back at my life, I’m not someone to not believe the most implausible things.

They were fishing and had stashed their wooden buckets with loads of fish. When they were done, Aurora and her siblings loaded their catches into the car not too far from there and rode home.

The kids were boasting about the number of catches they had when Hilda claimed to hear strange sounds coming from the back of the SUV, where they had apparently kept their catch.

She told Kane about it but he said not to worry about it, that it was probably some of the fish moving. When Aurora claimed to hear the sounds as well and was very sure it wasn’t fish, Kane parked the car by the side of the road.
