34. I CAN'T HEAR A BEAT

Eyes down on her bag, Emery fiddled with her fingers, patiently waiting for the Doctor. He had specially called them in.

"Good morning, Mr. Gunther and Miss Emery," the nurse who always attended to Emery during her antenatal classes greeted them. Emery caught a glimpse of the Fetal Doppler in her hands and she immediately figured that was the instrument she'd been using on her.

The Doctor walked in shortly after the Nurse, he welcomed the two of them and went to sit down.

"How have you been, Miss Emery?" The Doctor asked her.

"I have been very good," Emery responded, her voice almost losing its audibility. Her heart was in her throat, and worry mixed with tension pounced on her mind as she stared at the Doctor's blank expression.

Benhail noticed she was fidgeting, he slowly moved his hand atop hers. "Hey," he said, looking into her eyes.

Emery looked at him and shrugged her shoulders, "I am fine, trust me." She feigned a smile.

"Can you please come over to the bed?" The Nurse smiled
