HAZEL

PRESENT DAY

Word had reached us earlier that the visit of the kings would be delayed for a while due to some issues. We weren’t told how long— in fact, we were not really told at all. We just took it as a word of gossip and followed it along regardless.

We also were not told why, and for a brief second, my gut clenches as I think of the king being held back because he has to see a woman that he fancies. My jealousy turns into anger as I remember his suggestion, asking me to be his mistress.

“Waiting for your king?” a maid comes up to ask me, and I am surprised because they seem to have ostracized me before this.

“No, and he’s not my king,” I reply begrudgingly.

“Alright, whatever you say. Let’s just hope that they solve the problem of the rogues because we are tired of having them deal so much damage to so many packs.”

My blood runs cold and I turn to her. “Rogues? They have not entered our pack, have they?”
