Ch. 29

Nate had stayed back in the hospital to keep us informed. I knew that if he was calling something must have changed.

"Hello," I answered.

"He's awake and asking for you. You need to get here." Nate responded. His tone was very serious which worried me more than anything.

"Yeah, I'm on my way" I didn't want to leave the cure and I think Star could sense that.

"You go. Don't worry about this. I'll keep working on it while you're gone." She told me.

I took her word and ran out of the lab. I ran as quickly as I could toward the hospital. I desperately wanted to see Charles, to talk with him. I needed him to be okay, but I knew he wasn't. I ran through the large doors and ran into Nate. He led me to Charles' room.

"He's awake and talking. He isn't in pain currently, but they have been pumping him with pain killers so he's a little loopy. Rain, brace yourself, he doesn't look good." Nate told me. His eyes were full of sorrow for me. I felt my chest tighten with worry.
