Damon's POV

I quickly held the girl as she placed her hands on her ears and staggered forward. If I hadn't been fast with my reflex, I could tell that she would have hit her head on the tabletop in the kitchen. Or even worse, she could have hit her head on the ceramic plates and cups and injured herself severely.

Her death didn't matter to me. But the letter I got the previous day stated that if I wanted to break the mating bond between the girl and me, then I needed to do just one thing. That one thing was the reason why I was here.

My right arm hurt, and I winced in pain, nearly cursing out loud. Or maybe I did curse out loud because she let go of me instantly and shuffled backward like she was being chased. I looked at the area where I felt the pain to see what injured me there, but there was not a single scratch. When I realized that I just got into pain because of the emotion Evie was feeling, I got annoyed.

Before I could take action against her, I felt a heavy pain in my chest
