23: The Distant Night

"Did you see anyone there?" Mr. Ping asked, he was anxious until now, I understand since those people just ruined all of their stored goods. This city only depends on those foods, it will take a long time to repair all the damage too.

"I did, two of them died. Haven't found how many they are, but I am sure it will not take long and they will go back, since two of them will not return." I told him.

"H-How? Did you kill them?" I sighed, then nodded my head.

"Just one of them, the other took his own life for the price of his sins." I said.

"No, their life isn't enough." I flinched when he held my hand, he stared at my eyes, I could see the desperation in it. "Please protect us, protect my people." I couldn't help but to feel guilty, what if I can't? One person isn't enough to fight all of them when they all arrive at once.

"I can't promise, but I will do what I can." I sincerely told him, I don't want to make a promise that will soon be broken if I mess up and die.
