Chapter 53 - excuses

My heart dropped when Kelvin reported that Archer was involved in a violent incident. That foolish boy! I thought I taught him better than to act so rashly.

I know my son has a good heart deep down. But he lets his emotions get the better of him, like his father. Lucas always did value cold strength over sensitivity.

Well, I refuse to give up on my only child as his father did. I must go see Archer and help fix this situation before Lucas hears of it. That man looks for any excuse to punish the son he never wanted.

At least I convinced Kelvin, my most trusted guard, to keep quiet for now. He is fond of Archer, and knows Lucas's cruelty better than most. I'm grateful he remains loyal to me even now that I've fallen from mate to lowly mistress.

Here in the cold, empty manor I once called home, the other wolves mock and revile me. Lucas parades his new concubines around proudly now. He forgot me as soon as the shine wore off, leaving me barren and discarded.
