Chapter 17 - Nightmares

As I lie there, under my heap of leaves under the moon, fever overtakes my body, coursing through my veins and replacing my blood with pain.

My breaths turn heavy, and unexplainable tears prickle at the back of my eyes. I stare up at the stars, confused at the sudden emotions crashing through me, one after one inflicting pain and breaking my soul.

Abruptly the impact turns too severe, and I cover my mouth, muffling my screams in the middle of the night.

"Are you okay?" Adam whispers from across the extinguished fire.

A few hours ago, the three of us, Dave, Adam, and I, grilled fish together under the twinkling stars. Adam has tired of eating fish every night. He longs for tomorrow when we will arrive at Dave's house; meanwhile, I'm terrified.

The city of angels is where my sister lives, and I've suffered nightmares of her every night.

This night, however, I'm burning up for a whole other reason. Something strange is traveling u
