Chapter 36: Echoes of the Past

As Nathanial and I delved deeper into the northern woods, every rustle of leaves and crack of twigs set my nerves on edge. The shadows seemed to move with a life of their own, and the weight of our mission pressed down on us with increasing intensity. We had to uncover the threat stalking Lucas's pack and prove ourselves worthy of an alliance.

We had just reached a clearing when a sudden, chilling wind blew through the trees, carrying with it a faint, ghostly whisper. Nathanial tensed, his eyes scanning the darkness for any sign of danger.

"Did you hear that?" I asked, my voice barely above a whisper.

Nathanial nodded, his hand tightening around the hilt of his blade. "Stay close. Something's not right."
