Chapter 10: Longing Affection

No longer being able to bear it, Adrian clenched his fist tightly, feeling the weight of his heartache pressing against his chest.

He dialed the number he had obtained from Mark, Lillian's secretary.

On the third ring, the call was picked up, and the sound of Lillian's beautiful voice filled Adrian's ears.

His heart skipped a beat, but he gathered his strength and spoke, "Hello."

"Hey wifey," Adrian said, his voice tinged with a mix of relief and bitterness.

He couldn't help but let a small smile curl up on his lips, hoping that his endearing nickname would soften the tension between them.

Silence ensued, stretching out like an endless abyss over the phone line. Adrian's smile faded as he braced himself for the conversation that was about to unfold.
