Chapter 8

She tumbled backward, and her movements were so great that she fell off the bed.

“Ack!” she cried out.

With one sweeping motion, she grabbed the blanket and wrapped it around herself. As she stared at the stupidly handsome face in bed, all she could think about was her best friend telling her that the gigolo did not want to marry her.

So…

“Who are you?”

Since she grabbed the blanket, the person in bed was fully naked.

The lines of his abs were prominent on his lean and firm waist, and when she looked down…

The man propped up his head in a lackadaisical fashion, and a smile bloomed on his handsome face. His eyes were smiling as well, and he said in a deep voice, “Are you so eager to deny our relationship that you’re going to do it before even putting on your clothes and walking out, Honey?”

He called her his honey so naturally that Ruth’s face burned, and she looked away awkwardly.

Meanwhile, Serenity started screeching, and it made Ruth unable to ignore the situation in front of her. “You have a man with you! Ruth, where did you find him?! You even brought him home!”

“I’ll call you later.” Ruth rubbed her temples, which were aching from the hangover, and ended the call.

Honestly, she only had average alcohol tolerance.

Who would have thought that the eldest daughter of the Lockton family, the infamous Queen of Nightclubs in the Imperial City, would actually get drunk after just one bottle?

She blacked out from the moment they wished each other a happy marriage. Everything that happened after that was a blank slate in her mind.

Ruth’s eyes were downcast, and her eyelashes fluttered. She did not dare to look at the man in bed and could only lift the blanket discreetly to examine herself. Then, her face burned even hotter. Even her ears got red.

She was naked.

But when she moved her body, she mumbled under her breath, “What’s going on? I don’t feel anything.”

As she was thinking, she looked toward the bed.

There were no marks on the pale yellow sheets.

She thought. “What’s going on with the gigolo?”

Her face was no longer red at this point. She stared at the man in bed with a profound gaze. Just when she was about to speak, he uttered one question that made her return to her usual self.

“You have no idea what’s going on, do you?” Abel stared at her.

Ruth smirked disdainfully. “No way! I’m very experienced in this.”

Once she said this with the ego of a peacock, she got to her feet, threw the blanket over his head, and fled.

The sound of running water came from the bathroom.

The man in bed chuckled. He was sure now.

She really did not know him.

Half an hour later, Ruth finished bathing and sat on the couch in her bedroom while staring at the marriage certificate. She had an indescribable expression on her face.

If she had been just a little calmer yesterday, she would have realized that the name on the cert did not match the name Serenity gave her.

The gigolo Serenity got her was Noel.

Meanwhile, her newly wedded husband’s name in no shape or form looked like Noel.

The sound of running water in the bathroom came to a stop. The door opened, and the man came out with a towel around his waist.

He had a handsome and cold face, but it was not one that spelled aloofness. It was one that screamed regality and elegance. He gave off the feeling that he was far beyond anyone’s reach and had an inborn air of superiority.

His short hair gave him a sharp air. At that moment, his hair was still dripping wet with water, and it was really suggestive. The water droplets slid down his shoulders, went past his pecs, and disappeared beneath the towel.

His demeanor and outstanding endowments made Ruth believe that she had lost her rationality with how much she wanted to get married, because how could she have mistaken him for a gigolo and dragged him off to get married at the City Hall?

“Am I pleasing to your eyes?” There was a teasing lilt in Abel’s pleasant voice.

“Eh, you’re so-so.” Ruth looked away calmly and tossed the marriage certificate on the tea table. “Why don’t you explain yourself?”

Abel stopped drying his hair. “Explain what?”

In a lackadaisical fashion, Ruth leaned against the couch and stared at him. “I mistook you for the person I was supposed to get married to yesterday, but you couldn’t have possibly mistaken me for whoever it was you were supposed to meet. Why didn’t you tell me?”

She wore a loose robe and had her hair bundled up in a towel. Her face was clean, glowing, and flushed red because of the heat from the bathroom. Her skin was also so fair that she looked like a good girl that anyone would want to pinch.

However, her stiff gaze and professional tone made it seem like there was a wall around her that stopped anyone from getting closer to her.

He thought. “How uncute.”

s

“Go get dressed.”

Ruth was speechless, but she thought. “What? Am I naked?”

She instinctively looked down and found herself to be sitting cross-legged. Her robe had spread open because of her action, and if anyone looked at her from the side…

Red bloomed on her cheeks. She quickly put her legs down and glared at him.

But the man had already shifted his gaze elsewhere and was going back to the bathroom to blow-dry his hair. He did not seem to have noticed her anger in the slightest.

It gave Ruth the impression that her (what she believed to be) intimidating aura was, to him, just an egotistical elementary school student challenging his homeroom teacher. She was not intimidating to him in the slightest.

“How frustrating!”

But she still had to change her clothes.

Once she finished changing, she became confident. Ruth crossed her arms and glared at the man on the couch. “I expect a reasonable explanation!”

Abel had already changed into a clean set of casual clothes and was lounging on the couch. He placed his elbows on his knees and folded his hands together before he leaned forward a little.

His collar fell open slightly.

From where Ruth stood, she could vaguely see his abs.

The things that happened yesterday rose to the forefront of her mind. She was the one to seduce him…

“You gave really enticing terms,” Abel answered sincerely.
