Princess Elaine loved the beautiful kingdom of Delphi. She had grown up there and never left once. It was a place filled with many happy childhood memories for her. It wasn't just the place that she loved, but all the people too. As the Princess, she would do anything for her people, even at her own expense. Her family always described her as bright and bubbly, even on their darkest days - not that there were many. Delphi was also known as a peaceful land. Nothing serious usually never happened there. Everyone got along well and no one ever fought. There was no treason or invasions from anyone that had been banished… It was perfect. Almost too perfect. Although Elaine was young, she was also very wise for her age. Every decision that she made was always thought through carefully, with her family's best interests at heart. It was now the eve of her eighteenth birthday and almost the entire kingdom had come together to organise her highnesses ball. Everything was all set for her

An tap on her door instantly brought Elaine out of her thoughts."You may enter." She called out.Turning to face the door, she smiled as her mother, Thea, gracefully entered the room and joined her at the mirror. She glanced at her mum with curious eyes as she hadn't expected this little visit. A pleasant surprise that started her day. "My baby is all grown up now…" Thea began, her voice smothered in pride and emotion. "Mum." Elaine cringed at her mother's choice of words. "Your brother would be so proud of you, as we all are." Her mother stated, fussing with her hair. "Doesn't feel that way sometimes. I really miss him, mum." She admitted softly. "Oh, honey! I miss him too." A v line formed in the middle of her forehead as she wallowed a little in a second of grief. Without another word she embraced her mother in a comforting hug, feeling relief from the overwhelming moment of grief herself. She did not want to ruin the celebratory day with tears and sadness as that isn't what

Isabel moved frantically around, searching desperately for a weak spot that would free her best friend from Odette's grip, the King and Queen moved forward, ready to attack but stopped instantly when the grip around Elaine's neck was tightened. She didn't dare to fight for herself though, secretly she was frightened of what would happen to her parents and everyone around her if she did. "What's the matter Princess? Too weak to fight back." Odette taunted in her ear. Feeling the sickly heat of the witch's breath, she squirmed and squinted her eyes shut. But still, she did not fight. Instead she took on her calm and composed state once again. Despite that part of her brain that was screaming at her to make a move, she knew that it was a bad idea. Looking Elaine up and down, eyeing her offered hand in particular, a smile spread across Odette's face as she reached out and shook the hand of the Princess. It wasn't exactly the gruesome results she had been looking forward to, but it was only a matter of time before the lives of everyone Elaine knew would be torn apart. No one ever succeeded with such a mission and there was barely any chance that a member of the royal family could survive the dangers that rested beyond the borders of Delphi. A wave of guilt washed over her as she heard the exasperated cries of her devastated parents and the ear bashing that Isabel was giving her - even though she had tuned the fairy's voice out. This would not be an easy decision for her family to accept, and she doubted that they would ever be okay with what she had chosen, but they knew why. She didn't even have to explain that part to them because they already understood that she was doing it for the love of family. What they didn't know thou

"Well this is different from what I expected." Isabel commented as they took their first look around. "Right! I was expecting moss covered trees and the floor to be caked in thick mud but… this is beautiful." She beamed. After their moment of awe passed, they continued their trail deeper into the woods. As they got further and further the trees became taller and thicker until eventually there was no sky to be seen, ultimately consuming them. It wasn't until that point that Elaine began to feel slightly anxious, and just a little claustrophobic. "You uh… you don't think there could be anything hiding around here, do you?" She quizzed with a humourless laugh. "Honestly, I can't be certain. I mean, at first it was magical, when you could still see the sky and everything, but now that we are surrounded by trees that seem to scrape the sky, it is a little daunting." Isabel responded, taking her eyes away from a particular tree which seemed to have carvings in its bark. Elaine didn't s
