Chapter 14 Help Your Father

"It’s nothing…Mr. Murphy is just looking through some things."

"Mommy, did Grandma use all these things when she was still alive?" Lucas’ delicate voice could be clearly heard from where Theodore stood.

"Yeah." Scarlett walked down the stairs, only to find that her father, whom she hadn’t seen for the past six years, had returned home. "Let’s go." Staring at Theodore, she took Lucas’ hand and continued on her way.

"Scarlett, you’re back." Theodore was a little emotional. He'd missed her every second she'd been away. Lucas’ small figure caught his eye. "Who is this boy?"

"You haven’t eaten anything, right, Theodore? I’ll ask Mr. Murphy to get some food prepared." Kate held Theodore’s hand, afraid the father and daughter would get too close.

"Where are you going, Scarlett? Stay here at home." Theodore pushed Kate away to stop Scarlett and Lucas.

Home, he said. Scarlett found that word laughable. "This is your home, not mine or Lucas.'"

"Lucas? This is Lucas? Is he your son?"

Scarlett couldn’t help but scoff. Her father didn’t even know whether his daughter was married or had a child. Her child was already six years old—didn’t he find it ridiculous to ask a question like this?

When Scarlett pulled Lucas away to leave, Theodore got worked up and held her back. "Please don’t go, Scarlett. I don’t have anything anymore. Can you please stay by me?"

"What are you saying, Theodore? You still have me, don’t you?" Kate stopped Theodore. "You have no idea how rude this brat is. Just looking at my clothes is enough proof."

"What did you say?" Scarlett didn’t care much for Kate’s insults, but she couldn't remain indifferent when she heard Kate insult her son.

"Am I wrong? He’s not the only barbarian here; you are one as well."

Smack! In the face of Kate’s endless insults, Scarlett had wanted to slap her, but unexpectedly, Theodore was one step ahead of her.

"Did you just hit me, Theodore?"

"Go inside, and don’t come out without my permission," Theodore yelled loudly, protecting his daughter. Now that he'd lost everything and was facing the possibility of spending the rest of his life in prison, he'd realized what was truly important to him.

Scarlett was a little surprised at Theodore’s behavior today. Hadn't Theodore always been on this woman’s side? Seeing him have a change of heart so suddenly surprised her.

"Let’s go, Lucas." She'd seen many situations like this in TV dramas, and she was tired of them.

"Scarlett…" Theodore walked around Scarlett and suddenly knelt in front of her.

"What are you doing?" Although she hated him, he didn’t have to get on his knees for her. After all, he was still her father.

"Scarlett, whatever happened back then was my fault. I beg you, please forgive me. Please help me; otherwise, I’m really going to die."

On the way back, Theodore had already seen the news about Scarlett’s return yesterday. It wasn’t until he read the entire newspaper that he realized that his daughter had become a world-renowned lawyer and that she'd never lost a single case so far.

Theodore hesitated for a long time before deciding to beg his daughter for her help, hoping that she could save him. He was sure that he didn’t do anything wrong and that he'd been framed.

"Mommy, Grandpa looks so sad." Lucas pulled Scarlett’s hand and looked up at her with sad eyes, looking particularly pitiful. Scarlett felt confused as she took in her precious son’s expression. When did this little boy start acting like a good guy?
