Chapter 13 The Demanding Woman

Lucas immediately stood up straight and kicked Kate with his tiny foot. Then he ran inside without looking back.

"Ah! Mr. Murphy, hurry up and grab that brat. How can you let some stranger in here?" She ordered loudly, but Mr. Murphy never moved. "What are you doing?"

"Miss Langston…" Mr. Murphy uttered the words after a pause. Realizing that that woman had returned, Kate hurriedly straightened her clothes and changed her expression. She absolutely couldn’t let that woman see her lose her composure.

"Hey! What do you think you’re doing? Where's the woman who'd been so determined to never return to this place ever again? Now, look who’s going back on her promise. If you have the guts, then follow through with your promise and don’t step foot in here again." Kate put her hands on her thick waist and tauntingly walked toward Scarlett at the door.

Scarlett didn’t want to waste her breath with her, so she walked around Kate to go inside the mansion.

"Don’t come in here. You’re no longer a part of the Langston family." Kate turned around to stop Scarlett. Lucas was watching everything from the second-floor balcony and heard what the old woman was saying. No wonder his mommy had refused to bring him here no matter what. It was all because of this woman.

"That’s not for you to decide." Scarlett pushed Kate’s hand away so hard that she couldn’t fight back.

"I’m telling you, Scarlett, I’m the mistress of this house. Don’t think about pulling any tricks." Apart from bragging, Kate had no other way to send Scarlett away. But if she didn’t drive Scarlett away before her father came home, it would be hard for her to maintain control. Kate didn’t have any children, and she was already an old woman. The idea that Scarlett would return home and fight for her status and position in the family scared Kate to her wits' end.

"Since that’s the case, what are you so afraid of? Are you worried that if I come back here so suddenly, that man wouldn’t want you anymore?" Scarlett said with a sneer, "Don’t worry, I’m just here to take what belongs to my mother and I." Then she stepped into the living room elegantly and gracefully.

"You can’t go in...ah!" Kate's words were cut short as Lucas poured a basin of water on her from the balcony.

"Haha! Since it’s so hot today, let me help you cool off." The little boy didn’t forget to put salt in the wound when Kate looked up at him disdainfully.

As Lucas and Scarlett caused trouble in the Langston mansion, Theodore Langston, Scarlett’s father, encountered a catastrophe that he'd never imagined in his life. The leaders of the government had accused Theodore of corruption, taking bribes, and exploitation. Everything had blown up in his face today.

Everything that belonged to Theodore was suddenly gone. Not only did he have to go to court, but he might also go to jail and lose his position as an official. He resignedly returned to the Langston mansion, clutching his briefcase, before it was even 11 am. This was the first time he'd come home so early from work since he'd been appointed governor.

"Make sure to watch her carefully, Mr. Murphy. If she takes even a single thing from here, you have to let me know." Kate crossed her arms and ordered Mr. Murphy. She hadn't even changed her clothes. "Take back what belongs to her and her mother, she says. I’m pretty sure she’s just here to take anything valuable." Theodore, who had just walked into the house, clearly heard Kate’s sharp voice.

"Who are you talking about?" Theodore still looked tired and serious.

"Theo…Theodore?" Kate hadn't expected Theodore to be back so early. She glanced upstairs worriedly, not wanting the father and daughter to meet. She was especially worried that Theodore would see Scarlett’s son. "It’s nothing. Why are you home so early today? Have you eaten yet?"

"What’s that noise upstairs?"
