4. Chasing Heart

Alpha Fiama

“You shouldn’t have talked like that with him”, Vienna said, sitting beside me in the classroom. “I know you don’t like to be friendly with anyone. But...”

As I lifted my face and glared at her, she shut her mouth and lowered her head. Deep down, I also realized I had overreacted. To turn off the flame that was burning inside me, I had developed a lot of frustration inside me. I wasn’t expecting someone to enter my life like that. It was startling for me to feel that way about Jay. And all I knew was I had to remove Jay from my mind.

He couldn’t be my mate. Why would the moon goddess bound me with a human? He couldn’t be a king of my pack. It was impossible.

“Lilian’s face....”, I heard Elson cracking up and lifted my face. Jay and Elson entered together, walking towards the seat.

“Guys, Dean has slammed Lilian and gave her a last warning”, Elson couldn’t stop laughing.

“Great. She deserved that. Now she won’t be bullying you”, Vienna looked at Jay as he passed a tight-lipped smile, moving his seat. He didn’t look at me now. I felt a little guilty for my behaviour, but if my rude behaviour keeps him away from me, I’ll be happy doing that.

“It upset him”, Zendaya mumbled.

“He’ll be fine. He is a human, and they can’t prioritise someone in just a couple of days. I don’t think my actions will affect him anymore afterwards”, I told her.

“Your phone, Fia”, Elson handed me my phone. “Thanks on his behalf”

I passed a light smile to him.

“Can you give me the notes of previous classes, Nate?”, Jay spoke from behind.

My head felt heavy. His thick voice continued to do the spell on me, and I felt myself getting weakened with every moment of being around him. I closed my eyes tightly to stop producing the heat.

“Fia”, Vienna jerked me. “Are you okay?”

“Yeah”, in a trembling voice I spoke, opening my book.

“I don’t think you’re fine. You didn’t sleep well last night too, you didn’t behave well with Jay. Are you actually fine?”

I just wished she didn’t find out the reactions of my body. That whole mate thing should be a secret.

“No, I’m fine. I’m just a little nervous about the inauguration”, I told her.

“Don’t worry. You have worked hard. You won’t be disappointed”, she smiled.

I clenched my fists while listening to his voice from behind, scratching my nails on the wooden table. Something terrible was happening to me, I knew what it was. My wolf was burning in desires to mate with him. That was the fucking truth. My organs were craving him.

“Please no”, I mumbled to my wolf. “Not now. Not here”

Unknowingly, my eyes roamed around the classroom and shifted to the place where Jay was talking to his friends. I breathed heavily, allowing a rise to my chest with my fast pacing heart. My eyes wandered around his face again.

The next moment, his eyes stumbled upon mine. I was not in my sense to drive my gaze away. Before that, he passed me a sharp look and looked away. In just two days, I had never seen this distant look on his face. Maybe my behaviour had offended him the worst. He didn’t look at me again and kept ignoring me the whole time.

“Let’s have some drinks. It’s too hot, man”, Vienna blurted out, putting her palm on her head because of the scorching sun.

“Yeah. I have an hour before getting back to the office”, I told her.

“Babe”, Elson appeared there as I looked up. My smile vanished when I saw Jay after him. He was still looking away.

“You come?”, Vienna beamed. “We were going to have some drinks. Come”

“Sure. Jay... Come on”, Elson said.

“No! I need to move to the dorm room. All my stuff are still messed up so”, he mumbled, my eyes glued to him.

“You can do that later. Come on. It’ll be fun”, she said.

“Are you sure? I mean if....your friend doesn’t...have any problem....With me....”, he pauses, glancing at me. The quick glance of a second sent shivers down to my spine. “Then I can join”

Vienna and Elson rolled their eyes on me as I hesitated, “I don’t have a problem. Shall we leave now? I’ll have to leave for my work soon”

“Yes. Let’s go”, Elson cheers up.

We walked towards the canteen when Vienna caught up with Elson a few steps ahead, happily talking when I was strolling next to Jay. He was just a foot away from me.

“It’s a good chance. Say sorry. He must be angry with you”, Zendaya said.

For a moment, I thought to apologise. It wasn’t his fault that he was my mate.

“No! I think things should be like between us. I don’t want this to be solved”, I told her.

“Then just tell him you’re his mate and break this bond. Why are you not doing that?”, she screamed, being furious?

I didn’t reply to her. While reaching near to the canteen, I saw Lilian standing with her gang by the cement slope. She glared at us angrily as I smirked. Now she couldn’t use her cheap tactics to bully him.

I looked away and shuffled to the yard.

A big bang! What just happened? My jaw dropped as I discovered Jay falling on his face on the ground. A roll of laughter hit my ears.

Lilian fucking bitch! She had put her leg before him. I glared at her angrily.

“What happened? Film this now. Make as many videos as you can”, all of them laughed together.

My wolf howled inside my head at the extreme level as I sensed my blood shimmering. However, I gulped and looked down, finding him getting up.

“Jay... You okay?”, Elson screamed from the door.

“Yes”, he said, dusting off his shirt. I spotted a scratch on his face, stopping my hand to reach him. I badly wanted to see the scratch.

“I guess you want more dose”, I scoffed at Lilian.

“Fiama....”, Jay took my name in a bitter tone, freezing me on the spot. My focus shifted to him like an obedient mate! “You don’t need to bother yourself for me every time. We can’t change a few people. Please don’t trouble yourself”

Carrying his backpack, he shot me a glare and walked inside the canteen. The sound of their laughter increase, catching my attention again. I gazed at Lilian, balling my fists.

“She is like that. Don’t give her a fuck”, Vienna said to Jay as we took our seats. He was facing me, which was making me kinda uncomfortable. So, I preferred to put my gaze down.

A few minutes ago, he behaved a little harsh to me; it pinched me like hell.

“I know. Until I’m not trapped in anything that leads me out of this university, I can digest everything”, he said with a smile. I didn’t know why I felt that smile so painfully. My eyes didn’t shove away from him.

“Don’t worry. Until Fiama is the head of the Student Affairs Committee, none can be kicked out with false allegations”, Elson said.

Jay glanced at me for a while as I immediately looked down at the can of drink, struggling to not involve in eye contact.

“I know”, he said with a smile.

I thought he would taunt me right now.

“He is not like you. He is sweet”, Zendaya shrugged.

I knew he is. That was why I was not for him. Probably I was not good enough for him.

“By the way, where are you from?”, Vienna asked him.

“London itself”, he said.

“Oh! Then why do you stay in dorms? I mean you can stay with your parents”, she rolled her eyes.

“I don’t have parents. They abandoned me a long ago”, he smiled. I wondered how he could take everything so easily with a smile. However, his smile couldn’t hide everything that his eyes told me.

“I’m sorry”, Vienna’s face turned pale.

“That’s completely fine”, he chuckles.

I realised how his smile was weakening me on the spot. I had never felt so helpless in my life the way I was feeling in just two days. It wouldn’t be easy for me to be around Jay. I stood up.

“What happened?”, Elson asked as they looked at me, including Jay.

“I gotta go. There’s a lot of work pending. You guys can carry on”, I completed and turned around without waiting for another second, then rushed out of the canteen.

I saw Lilian still laughing with her fellows. Zendaya howled again.

*

Run! Run! As much as you can, bitch!

Zendaya whole inside as I trotted through the woods in darkness, chasing Lilian.

“Help!”, Lilian screamed while running faster. I could easily grab her right then, but I was enjoying her fear, her shouts, her terror. Everything was a treat to my eyes and ears.

“Someone.....please.....”, she huffed near a big stone barricade and pinned herself against it. She was sweating and shivering, popping her devastating eyes out.

I stopped two feet away from her and released a big howl.

“Who....who are....you?”, she trembled.

I didn’t answer back and walked towards her. In the darkness, I would not have able to see her if my eyes wouldn’t be turned green and shone at her.

Without wasting another moment, I raised my claw and attacked her shoulder.

A big whine escaped from her mouth as she collapsed on the ground. I kept groaning, looking at her fainted body. My breathing went heavier, wanting to take out her breath right then. My law wouldn’t let me do that.

“Lilian!!!”, I heard her friends calling her while coming this way. I glared at her for once and vanished inside the woods again.

“What took you so long, Alpha?”, William asked when I got inside the office, hesitating.

“Stuck in college”, I mumbled, walking through my new lavishing office. It was still crowd less, a five-storeyed building, painted in all white with glass walls.

“Reports! The client is coming two days later, Alpha. So, I tried to manage a personal group of staff for you. I hope you’ll like their work”, William said as I took my seat and went through the profiles of new staff.

“Good”

“But you need to meet your assistant, I thought. As your personal assistant will be with you throughout the time”, William said.

“You have appointed her. I trust your decision, Beta”, I told him.

“Still, and it’s not a girl. A guy. You wanted freshers as your staff and the guy is up to your taste, student with good potential”, he added. I looked up at him. William was hard to be impressed, so I guessed the PA would actually have good potential.

“Sure, call him”, I told him.

William walked out of my cabin. I went through the new project again. There was a lot more work pending before the client arrived. I hoped to speed up my work after I was done with settling with my new PA.

“May I come in, ma’am?”, giving rise to my heart, a familiar voice pinned to my ears.
