Chapter 3

She knew that the mother and daughter pair were not fond of her. They have done a lot of bad things to her behind closed doors, but in front of people, especially her father, they had always been polite to her.

Although her father did not like her, and he was even cold towards her, she once heard him telling the pair to never mistreat her.

But deliberately causing an accident that she did not remember and taking away her memories, that was new.

Ava put a hand on her mouth to prevent herself from crying out loud. She made a mistake coming to this place and all she wanted to do now was leave.

She turned around hastily but before she could make it to the door, a maid’s surprised voice echoed through the house.

“You, who are you and what are you doing here? Who let you in? Are you a thief?”

The maid had probably joined the family after Ava was married since she did not seem to know who she was.

Ava was walking hurriedly towards the door. But after being questioned by the maid if she was a thief, her back stiffened and her body trembled slightly.

This was her house, the place she could call home. But now that she had been reduced to a mere thief, she could not take the shock.

In her moment of hesitation, June and her mother Martha had caught up with her.

At that moment, Ava wished for the world to open up and swallow her but it was only wishful thinking. And if she had the power to reverse time, she never would have set foot in this house!

When June and Martha saw who it was, they were momentarily shocked. But after a moment, their gazes were replaced with hints of mockery and disdain. Their eyes were as if they were looking at a corpse.

June approached Ava and a heavy slap landed on her cheek, making her body sway as if it was about to fall down.

“You, what are you doing here? Didn’t you say that you would never set foot in this place the moment you got married? Why are you back?”

Ava’s mind was disoriented from the sudden slap but she still heard the question loud and clear.

She looked at June in shock. If she had not heard with her ears the woman talking about the news of her divorce, she would have believed that she really did not know what was going on.

But since she knew, she was only saying it so that she could rub salt on her fresh wounds.

Although June wanted to taunt Ava, Martha had other concerns. Just now, they have been conversing freely because they knew that they were the only ones in the house, but this bitch suddenly appeared out of nowhere. Did that mean that she heard everything they had been talking about?

Martha went to Ava and yanked her hair hard. Ava felt as if her scalp was on fire and she let out a painful cry.

Martha did not care about the pain she was causing and forced Ava to look at her. Looking into Martha’s eyes, Ava felt as if she was being haunted by the devil.

“Did you hear anything just now?”

Ava shook her head. She felt that if she nodded, her neck might be snapped right there and then.

“How long have you been standing here and listening?”

Ava rapidly shook her head, “I…”

June came back to her senses when she heard her mother’s questioning.

“Mom, what are you talking about? What could she have possibly heard?”

“Anything. What if she uses it against us and tries to find justice for herself? It has not been easy for us to reach this point, especially when we are about to get everything.”

“Mom, I think you are worrying too much. She is now a homeless and worthless being. She does not have a single penny, what could she possibly do? It is not like she has anyone who could ever stand up for her?”

“You are right… but?”

“Like I told you, she might not even wake up to see the sunrise tomorrow.”

With that, Ava was thrown out of her house, labeled as a thief who had broken in and they almost called the police on her.

Ava walked on the streets with a blank mind. Just yesterday, she had been the young mistress of the Grayson family. And even if her husband did not love her, no one would have dared to bully her. In fact, the two people that had just thrown her out of the West family, had to show her respect every time they met at an official event.

But now, not only was she a divorcee, but she was homeless, with no friends and nowhere to go.

Worst of all, she had just learned that a part of her memory was missing, and now she felt like she had been living a fake life all these years.

Ava walked from dawn to dusk. She did not feel hungry or tired. She just wanted to keep walking until the world would consume her.

What was there to leave for if no one in the world wanted her? Maybe she would have followed her mom to wherever place she went after she died.

In her dazed moment, and not feeling the impending danger, a bright-red sports car came from behind at lightning speed. It rammed into Ava, making her body fly in the air before leaving without caring whether she would survive or die.

Ava, who was numb to everything, did not even realize that she had been hit by a car. She only felt her body floating in the air before it landed in a pair of strong arms, holding her tightly.

Then a voice sounded in her head. Someone was calling out for her in a worried tone, “Miss, are you alright? Miss, open your eyes!”

The voice was deep and husky, probably the most beautiful voice she had heard in her entire life.

Although she was hearing it for the first time, Ava was already fond of it.

She struggled to open her heavy eyes and what she came in contact with was a breathtakingly handsome face, so handsome that it made her widen her eyes.

With her consciousness drifting away, Ava did not know for how long she would keep her eyes open. She looked at the man as if she wanted to imprint every inch of his face in her mind. At the same time, something seemed to be breaking free in her mind, making her convulse in pain.

The man looked at her with a worried expression, “Ma’am, I will take you to the hospital, just hang in there a little. You will be fine, I promise.”

Ava did not know whether she was dreaming or not. But she was happy that someone had actually cared about her and shown her concern in her most vulnerable moment.

At that moment, she felt that the world was not such an ugly place anymore. At least, there was someone who could care about her.

With the little strength left in her, she lifted her bloodied hand and touched the man’s handsome face. And with the last bit of breath left in her, she asked while gasping for air, “M…i…s…t...e…r… hand…some… wa… what… is… your… name?”

The man, who had never been one to answer to just anybody, opened his mouth and said in a gentle tone, “Leo Wyatt. My name is Leo Wyatt.”

“L…e…o, thank… you!” after Ava said, a beautiful smile appeared on her face. A smile that made Leo’s heart skip a beat and it was imprinted in his eyes and his heart for generations to come.

After Ava was taken away by the ambulance, Leo turned to his stunned assistant.

He commanded in an almost freezing tone, “Find out everything about her, and why someone just tried to kill her. I want to see everything about her on my desk in an hour.”

“Yes, boss.”

‘Leo Wyatt.’

That was the name that kept playing in Ava’s subconsciousness. She did not remember where she had heard it but she knew that it was important, and she had to find whoever that person was.

Slowly opening her eyes, she realized that she was lying on a huge bed, and looking around, the room seemed familiar!

Wasn’t this the same room she had spent three years, drowning in loneliness hoping that, that man could one day walk through that door, and embrace her?

Ava was confused. She looked at the calendar and realized that it was one week to their wedding anniversary. But hadn’t the anniversary already passed?

What in the fu*king world was not happening?
