Chapter 4

Ava hastily lifted the blankets and hurried to the mirror. When she saw the familiar face in the mirror, she was even more confused.

She touched her face, trying to see if anything strange had happened to it, but she found that her face was intact.

The only thing that had changed was probably the light in her eyes. Every time she looked at herself in this mirror in the past, she would only see a pathetic, self-mocking gaze looking back at her.

But now, there seemed to be something different about it. Although she could not put her finger on it, she felt that just with a single gaze from her, she could see through everything.

What was more shocking to her was that she felt as if she had already lived this day!

Ava looked around the room, trying to find clues to whatever was happening to her, but she realized that everything was exactly the same. There was nothing out of the ordinary in the room!

But why did everything feel so different?

Was she giving herself too much pressure because of the coming wedding anniversary? She knew that it was her last chance to try and salvage her marriage with Jason! Maybe that was why she was feeling on edge.

Ava shrugged her shoulders and returned to bed. Just as she was about to lie down, she was hit by a heavy nauseating feeling and before she could call for help, she lost consciousness.

Bits and pieces of memories flashed through her mind.

On her third wedding anniversary, which was a week from now, she woke up early, and went to the kitchen as usual to prepare breakfast. She did not know why but she suddenly had a strong urge to see her husband, so she packed some of the food and headed to the Grayson Group of companies.

When she reached the office, she realized that Jason’s long-time girlfriend had returned from overseas, and the man forced her to sign the divorce papers.

Remembering how she had been burned with hot soup, Ava’s hand trembled. It was as if her body was trying to protect itself from the pain, as her fingers curled up.

She saw her sorry self, leaving the Grayson Group of companies, hailed a taxi, and stopped in front of a majestic gate.

In her pathetic state, she entered the house but she did not expect to hear such earth-shattering news. she had actually been involved in an accident that made her lose her memories when she was young, but she did not even know.

She was humiliated, slapped, and then thrown out of the house. Having nowhere to go, she walked aimlessly on the road, until she was hit by a speeding car.

Ava’s heart hammered in her chest when she saw that scene. So, she had actually been hit by a car, but why had she not died?

Before she closed her eyes, she saw the most handsome face that she had never seen before, holding her in his arms and gently taking care of her. He was so worried about her that his breathtaking face had stiffened.

Ava was sure that she did not know who the man was, but at that moment, her heart felt warm. Someone was actually worried about her. She had thought that she was destined to die a lonely death and no one would ever remember her. But seeing the strange man treating her with utmost gentleness and care, even telling her not to close her eyes, Ava revealed a beautiful smile.

And before she succumbed to the darkness that was threatening to consume her, she managed to ask the man’s name.

“Leo Wyatt.” the man had said.

Ava’s mind jolted. That was the name that was ringing in her mind when she woke up this morning.

One thing she could not fathom was how she survived that gruesome car accident and even ended up waking up a week earlier before it all happened.

With everything replaying in her mind, Ava ended up sleeping through the day and only woke up in the evening.

When she opened her eyes again, she was not in a hurry to get off the bed. She replayed every scene in her mind, and no matter how bewildered she was, one thing was certain, she had died and she somehow ended up being alive again, one week before the scariest nightmare of her life started.

Although she did not know how it happened, she was not going to waste this chance. She had even gotten a glimpse of her lost memories, and if it was true, then she had a lot of things to take care of.

The most important thing now was for her to find Leo Wyatt. He could be considered her savior and no matter what, she had to find him.

Her stomach growled, bringing her back to her senses. Ava unhurriedly got off the bed and went to the bathroom. After taking a quick shower, she put on a comfortable dress and headed downstairs.

She looked at the familiar house that she spent the past three years and sneered.

Every day, she would wake up with a hopeful heart and stare at that door for the whole day, but the person she wanted to see the most never made an appearance.

Thinking about everything that had happened in the past, she really was pathetic. Maybe that was why the heavens have been merciful to her and given her a chance to finally change her destiny.

Ava walked down the stairs with a majestic aura, stunning the servants who were in the living room, watching TV.

They were only momentarily stunned before they came back to their senses. Although this good-for-nothing bitch seemed different, they did not care. They only looked at her before they resumed watching television.

When she reached the sitting room, she said in a calm voice, “I would like to have dinner, please.”

The servants looked at her as if they were hearing things. Had this lowly bitch just said she wanted dinner? didn’t she know the way to the kitchen?

They wanted to rebuke her but when they met her clear gaze, they felt as if a heavy force was pressing down on their throats and the words got stuck.

Ava looked at their frightened expressions and smiled. When she came here after her wedding, she had been kind to every worker in the house, helping them with the house chores, and treating them like they were equals with her.

But the majority of them did not appreciate her kindness. They took turns to bully her and they even helped Beth and Cecile to execute many of their evil plans.

“Did you guys not hear me? I said that wanted to have dinner. Do I have to remind you of your purpose in this house?”

The maids were thoroughly shocked when they heard Ava. Since when did she have the courage to command them around?

They looked at her and sneered, “And who do you think you are to order us around? Don’t you know where the kitchen door is?”

Ava did not get mad when she heard them. She laughed and said in a flat tone, “If you don’t want to do the work that brought you here, then you can as well pack your things and get out of my sight.”

The maids who were being arrogant could not believe their ears. Was this stupid woman actually firing them?

They all laughed out loud as if they had just heard the funniest joke in the world. “Haha, who do you think you are? Do you think that anyone in this house takes you seriously? I bet that even our status in this family is way more precious than yours. How about you just scram and let us be, that way, we will not report you to the Young Master.”

“Oh, now you want to teach me how to behave in my own house? How about I show you who the real master is?”

With that, Ava called out, “Uncle Sam!”

The butler, who had already reached the door, hurried to the sitting room. He looked at Ava and a hint of surprise flashed through his eyes. Just one look and he felt a different vibe coming off from his mistress.

“Mrs. Grayson, did you call for me?” he asked in a respectful tone.

“Uncle Sam, how many times have I told you that you can call me Ava? There is no need to be polite.”

“Well, I called you because I want you to replace each one of them. I am hungry so I asked them to bring me dinner, but they were so disrespectful that I could not stomach it.”

Ava looked at the maids’ shocked expressions and spread her arms, “I am their mistress but they actually told me that their status is higher than mine, and I should crawl back to the hellhole I came from.”

The maids were now scared when they saw Sam’s increasingly cold face. Although they could trample on Ava however much they wanted, this old man was different. He had been working in the Grayson family for many years, and a single word from him could doom their fate. “Butler Sam, we did not. She is just making up stories.”

Sam looked at them and asked in an emotionless voice, “Did Mrs.… did Ava ask you to serve her dinner?”

The maids looked at each other and after thinking for a while, they nodded.

“Yes, but…”

“Did you do as you were told?”

“No…”

“Pack your things, collect your month’s salary, and leave this place,” Sam commanded.

“Butler Sam, we…”

Ava sat at the dining table and enjoyed her dinner. Without those annoying flies around, her mind was at peace, and for the first time, she felt as if she was finally alive.

Sam was looking at her with a baffled expression. The Ava he knew would never resort to firing the maids because they refused to serve her dinner. The more he looked at her, the more he felt that something was definitely off with his mistress.
