2. Pregnancy Result

Alex snapped his fingers "Two weeks ago, on Friday, you sent me a text about staying over at a friend's place, didn't you?!" he asked as she had an oblivious look plastered on her face.

"Me? Sent you a text?" Raising a brow, she questioned, not recalling ever sending him a text after their one year of marriage. Sophia had given him space, trying hard to make sure he never gets angry at her actions. She had always walked on eggshells around him, hoping it would make him at least notice her. She had hopes, high hopes.

"Oh fuck!" he shouted with a furious seep of air "You aren't just a cheat, you are also a liar and a fucking whore!" he roared "And I don't care, sign those papers before I return tomorrow, cause there's no one, nobody— not even grandfather would be able to stop this divorce from happening!"

Of all the words he had just said, none of them hurt her as much as hearing him calling her a whore did "Alex..." Sophia whispered, she closed her eyes as tears threatened to fall. How does she explain to him that she had fallen hopelessly in love with him and she would never do anything that goes against him or their marriage?

"You think I'm a whore?" Sophia breathed "I've only slept with you before!" she said, her heart felt like it had shattered into tiny little pieces as it ached a lot. She wanted to cry, fall to her knees and beg him to believe what she was saying, her hands fidgeted beside her and she clutched them together, trying her possible best to not show how hurt she was.

"Oh God, Sophia. I wonder how you keep lying to my face continuously this way. I'm so disappointed in you!"

Alex said his last words and walked past her, heading for the exit of the dining hall before her words stopped him in his tracks "It's because of Alice, isn't it? Your ex-girlfriend is back and you return to being bedazzled. All you just want is to get back with her!" she cried, but didn't stop saying what she had in mind.

"Get this straight into your head! Alice is your ex-girlfriend that left you for fame and I am your wife that has been with you for over a year! So if you think you would be able to trash me away just because she is back, then you are mistaken, 'cause I'm going nowhere!"

Alex turned, his pale green eyes staring daggers at her, jabbing her heart into bits as the man she had fallen head over heels for ever since her teenage years stared deadly at her, not showing the slightest of emotions in them, all they held was hatred.

And to think there was a time Sophia found the same eyes as the most gentle eyes she had ever met.

"Alice has got nothing to do with this, stop trying to blame innocent people for your precarious actions. This is about you and your acclaimed friend who you seemed to have been sleeping with!" Alex yelled.

"Finn is my friend and you are my husband! I've never been touched by anyone but you!" she tried to make him understand but Alex seemed as though his ears has been punctured to not listen to anyone but himself.

"We have never even slept in the same room after marriage!" He said. Sophia stared at him, feeling her legs wobble. They had slept together before— once, two weeks ago but he doesn't remember, she thought he did.

"And how am I supposed to believe your words when the pictures have you and your acclaimed friend sleeping in a tight embrace, bare!" he clenched his jaws, "I have no time to listen to any more from you. I'm leaving" he declared.

"You have twenty-four hours. Twenty-four hours to sign that document!" Alex said, briefly pointing at the divorce papers on the dining table.

Sophia stared at him, not knowing what to say anymore as he has chosen to not believe her, with every step he took towards the door, her heart hammered in her chest, was this how it was going to end between them?

A tear found its way out of her eyes "Where are you going to? It's cold and raining heavily tonight!" even after all he had said, she was still worried.

"I don't care! As long as I can stay away from you," with that, he stepped out of the dining, heading to the exit of the house, with each step residing as his shoes clicked on the floor— the next thing Sophia heard was the loud bang of the main door.

He left.

Her legs gave way, trembling uncontrollably as if they had turned to jelly. Sophia felt dizzy and with a heavy thud, she crumpled to the ground, completely devoid of any strength. Her vision blurred, and she tightly shut her eyes, holding back the tears that threatened to fall. A pregnancy result and test stick in her pants pocket dropped to the floor.

With her eyes shut tightly, she reached out for it, desperately trying to hold back the tears that loomed near as her chest rose and fell, gasping for air.

She loves Alex so much, she was ready to do anything he ever wanted from her, anything at all. Amidst her unwavering commitment, the thought of their marriage ending within a mere year had never crossed her mind.

Her gaze fixated on the faint line and the test result, her eyes devoid of focus as a veil of tears began to obscure her vision as if a dam inside her had shattered. The last string in her heart snapped, and a torrent of tears broke free, releasing the pain and anguish within her.

Their marriage for the past year was never roses and lilies, but she never for once complained to anyone, not even her parents or his. As long as she had him for herself, then it was okay, nothing else mattered.

He hardly sleeps at home at night, he came around at least once a week or after two weeks, spending a night at home and leaving the next morning, even before she gets up.

Unbridled tears streamed down her face as she stared at the two parallel lines etched on the pregnancy stick.

She held tightly to her stomach as a sharp pang coursed through her, making her feel as if she is not only being pierced in her heart alone but also in her abdomen.

Sophia whimpered, biting her lips tightly to not cry out loud. Even as her lips stung in pain, she didn't stop.

She discovered she was pregnant earlier this morning, hopeful that he would be happy at the news and she yearned for it to bring them closer, even if it would just be a little — but just before she could announce the news to him, he suddenly wants a divorce.
