1. Divorce Papers

"Sign the fucking papers and get out of my house this moment, Sophia!" Alex Carter, her husband roared angrily as he slammed the divorce papers onto the dining table, towering over her as he raved.

"How could you? How on earth did you change into the worst, and the most ill-mannered person I've ever known in just a span of a few years? Where is the sweet modest girl I grew up knowing?!" Sophia who had been eating her dinner a couple of minutes ago paused, staring confusedly at Alex who finally came home after two weeks, only to toss words at her the moment he stepped in.

Before she could get the chance to speak, Alex continued "You can keep all your explanations to yourself, just sign the divorce papers and get out of my house this moment! I don't want to ever see your face, nor even hear your name!"

His voice sliced through the air, as he stood on the other side of the table glaring furiously at her.

"Alex, what's...wrong?" Sophia asked, her voice shaking a little "What papers are you talking about? I'm not signing those if they are divorce papers! Can you at least tell me what's going on?!" she sat down perplexed at the situation, but still trying to keep calm even though he was glaring furiously at her as if he would choke her if he got a moment.

"I should be asking you, what's going on with you and Finn? What are these pictures?" As his voice echoed through the walls, reverberating thunderously into her ears and sending a cold chill down her spine, he slammed another file to the table where she had been eating.

With furrowed brows, Sophia's heart unknowingly thumped in her chest as she reached out for the file, bringing a few pictures out of it.

"This marriage was the worst decision grandfather could have ever made. What was he thinking marrying me to a college student who is nothing but a whore, sleeping around after marriage, and that too, with the same guy she claims to be her friend!" he added, as if ready to say all the heart-shattering words she would ever hear in her years of living.

He continued, not even giving her a break to recollect her thoughts as she stared down at the picture which was in her trembling hands.

White sheets were used to cover the body of the two figures on the bed, but their faces were uncovered as the male had his hands wrapped around the female in an embrace, their faces were a little bit clear, and surprisingly she and her friend, Finn. How?

"You can't say anything anymore?!" Alex slammed his hands on the table, pulling her back to the present as her cutleries clattered on the plate, sending deep echoes.

Despite her mind running a marathon and her thoughts in tremendous turmoil, Sophia tried to keep calm, so they can talk and resolve the situation, but Alex wanted otherwise.

"No one, not even grandfather would stop this divorce from happening!" he frustrating brushed his fingers through his black hair.

"I...I" Sophia stammered for a moment, what were these pictures? How was she on the bed with Finn? When were these pictures taken? Who took these pictures? Her questions were left hanging as she couldn't recall when this happened or how.

Her head pounded in confusion and she felt slightly dizzy but despite that, she stood up "Believe me when I say I don't know anything about these pictures. I don't know how it was taken, I don't even know when it happened. Why would I sleep with someone else when I'm married to you?"

Sophia tried to reach out to touch his shoulders but he slapped her hands off. He had warned her about no physical touch in their marriage. She thought he had changed after that night two weeks ago since he was the one yearning for her then.

"Get your filthy hands away from me!" he glared at her, and Sophia stood there as she felt like her heart was being sliced into small chunks. The pale green eyes she had grown up seeing as the softest gaze that would ever befall her, were the same eyes that were glaring at her with hatred.

She slowly slipped out of sanity when he wasn't giving her a chance to explain, growing furious, Sophia suddenly snapped "Would you stop acting like a child and hear me out so we can handle the situation?! You just got these pictures and came furiously at me with divorce papers?! I don't even know if the person in the pictures is me! The face of the lady wasn't entirely shown, so why would you conclude it was me?!" She yelled back since he decided to act like a child in the situation.

He grazes his palm on his forehead and for a moment, Sophia thought he was ready to talk, not until he turned back at her, pointing his index fingers straight to her face, his eyes flaring red more than before. His usually slick back hair was ruffled, making him appear angry and confused as a glint of hurt flashed across his eyes.

Sophia shut her eyes, internally reminding herself that the man in front of her hated her, and that was all. He had never shown even an ounce of affection to her after marriage. He hardly sleeps at home, he only visits at least once a week, and sometimes after two weeks.

A marriage which he had vehemently disagreed on. She had feelings for him ever since she was young, so when her father came into her room a year ago and told her about it, she was happy, very happy. Sophia had hoped he would end up growing feelings for her after the marriage, but what a dream it had always been.

She had prayed he would fall head over heels for her and change, but who was she kidding? Alexander Carter would always glare at her with hatred and disgust.
