Prologue

Hurried footsteps were making their way on a paved stone walkway. Little taps of boots could be heard a long way in the dead of the night.

Most of the pack members were sent on a pack run on the night of the full moon, so the packhouse with all of its glory was quite empty.

Low hushed voices could be heard from the council’s room where an emergency meeting was being held as Alpha wanted this to be as discreet as possible.

Only five members of the council were present in the room, sitting on the high chairs and looking down at Lesnar and his wife. On the table was the freshly cut head of an elk, dripping fresh dark blood. One of the councilmen was eyeing it rather greedily. The room was not brightly lit as it interfered with Alpha’s vision who was as ancient as the earth itself. His skin was like a white paste, one good puff of air would blow him away but nonetheless, he was strong and wicked. People feared him for that. Disagreeing with Alpha was the surefire way of sealing your and your family’s fate.

“Lesnar I am not feeling overly enthusiastic to get out of my bed and listen to your stupid case,” Alpha said in a voice that was shrill and full of cruelty.

“The law on the wolf cycle has been pretty clear, I don’t see what are we arguing about”, Alpha said

“But Alpha the thing is that my daughter still has time, we cannot simply turn away from the fact that she is still not eighteen which gives her the right to at least….”

“Enough…” Lesnar was cut short by one of the ancient councilmen.

“The council of the ancients deem it unnecessary to listen to this futile thing, we have made our decision”, the councilman said.

“According to the law your family will be punished dearly if you continue to harbor your wolfless daughter in your house, we cannot tolerate this abomination any further it is getting out of hand, examples need to be set. Most of our pack kids shift even before they are 13” The council man continued his rant.

In the distance, the door of the room stood a jar and little shadows could be seen listening attentively to the whole conversation.

Regina was looking at Sam. Sam’s face had lost its color. He was so pale. His whole fairytale world had come crashing down. His father was Alpha but in the past, he had never bothered with these late-night meetings but tonight was different. He was getting ready for the pack run with the rest of the teens at school when in the corner he saw Regina lurking by and gesturing him to follow her. Regina and Sam were good friends before Sam had started dating Eve and now most of the girls including Regina hated him.

Sam got curious and went to Regina.

“Sam you need to come with me,” Regina said urgently.

“But what it is about?” Sam asked

“Please no questions, it’s for your own good,” Regina said and ran away. Sam decided to follow her.

Both of them heard the councilmen.

“I wanted you to know the truth”, Regina said after a while.

“Will you still want a freak as your girlfriend?” Regina asked Sam.

Sam stopped momentarily before answering. Regina couldn’t see his face clearly because of the low light.

“No freak can ever come into our pack”, Sam said decisively. Regina’s eyes lit up. She knew this was it, Sam had turned against his first love and that was the plan all along. Now she had a chance to make Sam her own.
