Chapter 6

*Kai's POV*

Dan instantly gave me the magazine he was holding and what I saw made me stumble back in shock.

Astrid's name was on the front page and it wasn't just that, she was among the top 10 successful business women and she was the first.

"I is this real?" I stuttered, still staring at the paper in utter disbelief and shock.

It wasn't just about her being successful, it was about her being alive, a great feeling of relief coursed through me as I continued staring at her picture on the front page, she's changed so much that it was almost so hard to recognize her.

"She's alive Dan, she's alive!" I said with a bright smile on my face.

"Of course Alpha, I told you she's still alive, this is such a wonderful news for us."

"Where is she? I need to meet her, can you track down her location?" I asked impatiently.

The happiness on Dan's face instantly vanished and it made me wonder what went wrong.

"What's wrong? Why do you have that look on your face?" I asked and he sighed deeply.

"The thing is..." He trailed as he scratched the back of his head nervously.

"Speak!" 

"She's at the wild crest pack, she's with the Alpha of the wild crest pack, Lucas Falcon."

"What!" I raged.

"Information has it that she's been with him for a very long time, my guess is that she might have ran into him when she left here seven years ago and she's been with him ever since."

"No! That can't happen! She can't be with a man like him, that's impossible!" I said with gritted teeth, balling my fist in rage.

Lucas Falcon is my rival, both packs has been rivals for a very long time, he was a devious man and Astrid shouldn't be with a man like him.

"Get the car ready, we're heading over to the wild crest pack." 

"What! Do you have any idea what you're saying Kai, I'm not speaking to you as your beta now but as a friend, do not make rash decisions, we can't just go there knowing how things are with both packs. Lucas Falcon is your rival, he's literally your worst enemy, no one wants to bring you down more than that man himself."

"And do I look like I care? You know what kind of man he is, Astrid shouldn't be with a man like him, he's dangerous!" I replied and Dan scoffed.

"It's been seven years Kai, seven long years and you think she'll simply run into your arms when she sees you!? Do you think she'll believe a single word you say when you tell her about Lucas? I don't think this is a good idea, why don't we wait and come up with another plan."

"She has a company, you can start by forming a collaboration with their company, at least you'll still get to see her."

"You don't get it, the fact that she's with Lucas makes my blood boil with rage, I can't stand the thought of her being with that monster! I'm going to get her and that's final!"

"But—"

"I'm not speaking to you as a friend now Dan, this is an order as your Alpha. Get the car ready!" I ordered, using my powers as an Alpha.

I could see the hurt in his eyes, but he has no choice than to obey me now, I want to see Astrid, I need to see her and no one can stop me from doing that.

"Yes Alpha." Dan bowed before leaving.

It's been seven long years, I've longed for her for so long, I can't wait any longer.

On my way out, I bumped into Kathryn, now even the sight of her disgusts me.

"Where are you off to Kai?" She asked, but from the tone of her voice and the look on her face, I could tell she already knew.

"And since when do I have to answer to you? Just get out of my way!" I spat.

I made to leave, but she instantly grabbed my hand. "Why are you doing this to me Kai? You've changed drastically, I've done everything to please you but you don't look at me the same and now you want to go after a woman you know too well won't accept you!"

"This is madness Kai, do not waste your time going after Astrid, she's with someone else now! She's found happiness, why won't you let things be the same way they are!?" She half yelled, tears rolling down her cheeks.

Once upon a time, those tears of hers would have moved me, but now, I don't care about the crocodile tears she sheds.

I roughly held her hand and pushed her away from me.

"Don't cross your boundary Kathryn, you should be thankful I'm still letting you stay here, so stay within your limits!" I warned before walking out on her.

"You're making a big mistake Kai! You hear me, you're making a big mistake!" I heard her yell.

When I got out, Dan stood beside the car waiting for me.

"There'll be no need for the escorts, I and my beta will do." I said to the guards waiting for me.

"Yes Alpha." They bowed before leaving.

I got into the back seat, while Dan got into the driver's side and soon we drove off.

To say I was nervous was an understatement, I knew Dan was right, I don't expect Astrid to simply welcome me with open arms, but I still needed to see her, I just want to beg her for her forgiveness and tell her how sorry I am for everything I made her go through. I want her to know how miserable I am without her, I miss her so badly and I want her back.

I also can't stand her being with Lucas, Astrid might not be aware of the kind of man Lucas is, but I know too well what kind of man he is and I'm not letting her be with him.

I won't give up on her now, I did it once, I won't repeat the same mistake again. I want my mate back and I'm not stopping until I get her back.
