Chapter Three

I ran into the house slamming the door shut. Tears ran down my face blurring my vision as I stomped up the steps and into my room. When I thought things couldn't get any worse than chemistry, lunch rolled around and I got a tray of spaghetti dumped on me, milk spilled on my pants, tripped in the halls, and my bag was thrown in the trash.

You thought this stuff only happened in tv shows and movies, yet here I am a living walking proof that it can actually happen to you in real life. I just couldn't deal with this. I just knew it was only going to get worse as the school year dragged on. I couldn't run even if I wanted to, because then I'd have to come face to face with everything and I'm perfectly fine right now pretending nothing is going on.

I stood in my shower balling my eyes out for the 50th time in the last month. I wasn't even sure what I was even crying for anymore. I took a deep breath to calm my nerves and just washed away the stress of the day. I had to remain calm and stop stressing, people will have their opinions and that was it. As long as I knew the truth, I would be fine right?

I climbed out of the shower and stood in front of my full-length mirror taking everything in. I start with my eyes that always seemed tired now, there was no joy behind them nor was there any happiness.

Then I observed the rest of my face, my cheeks were puffy and my skin looked a shade lighter like I was sick or something. My breasts did seem to be slightly bigger, but nothing too noticeable. My arms and legs seemed to be the same, but I could notice the slight widening of my hips and waist.

Finally, my stomach, there wasn't much to see but I knew what was there. If I turned to the side, I could make out the faint protrusion there. It wasn't very noticeable.

"Hey, there little one. Life is extremely tough right now, but I promise to do my best and make it better. I just have to find my brave bones once again and buy some thicker skin." I spoke out into the bathroom.

"You're my little secret and I hope to keep you that way for as long as possible. Just hold tight and bear with me. It's hard out here."

I wrapped the towel around my body and headed to my room. I found a pair of grey sweatpants and one of my big shirts and got to work on homework. I looked through my agenda and seen I had to finish my reading for my English class, work on the rest of the problems for math and do a report for social studies.

I grabbed my math book and flipped through the pages until I was on the right one. As I worked on the problems, I heard the front door closing.

"Lanaisa! You here?" I heard my mother yelling.

"Doing homework!" I yelled back. Moments later she was walking through my door with shopping bags in her hand. She set a few of them down on my bed before walking over and kissing my head.

"How was school today? Anything exciting happens?" The smile on her face was contagious and I felt myself smiling along with her despite my day being anything but exciting.

Let's see, I got spitballs thrown at me, knocked down in the hall multiple times, an Iguana shoved down my shirt, talked about for the hundredth time, heard some pretty creative rumors this go-round. Oh and let's not forget I'm still pregnant.

"Well turns out there's a new kid in my math and English class. The school is starting a debate team next week. That's about it for today." There was no debate team, I just told her that because what else was I going to say. Hey mom I'm pregnant and everyone in school thinks I got an abortion, and now they're making my life a living hell.

Yeah, that would go so well.

"Well, that's great honey. I bought you a few dresses for the summertime. They were on sale and just knew they would look cute on you. I also went and picked up your gown for Valentine's Ball." My smile dropped as I remembered the ball.

It was this big event one of her friends was hosting. It was for a fashion designer and they wanted me to be a part of it. February was four months away and by then I don't think I can hide this belly of mine. I'll be six months and who knows how much weight I would have gained by then.

"Oh right! Well, why did you get it so early? Why not wait until January to make adjustments and things." I asked trying to find a way around it.

"Well I wanted you to see it, plus I know you forget things easily so I figured why not get it now and we can take it to get altered if need be in January," she argued. I just nodded my head accepting my fate in all of this.

"Well, I'll let you get back to homework. Your dress will be in my closet when you want to see it." she gave my cheek another kiss before getting up and leaving the room.

I got up and went to the bags she had left on my bed and dug around through them. There were lots of cute sundresses and a few shirts that I liked. If it wasn't for my mother, my wardrobe would be bland and consisting of only black and red clothing. Those were my favorite colors so I didn't see a problem with it.

After I hung everything up in the back of my closet I went and finished up my math before starting on my report. I had a few more days until it was due but it was better to start now rather than later, less more work for me to do. When I got to a good place to stop I decided to pack up my homework and work on my story before I did my English work. I needed a break from the world around me.

In my story, my character Lindsey was becoming a famous singer and her family disowned her for not wanting to join the family trade business. It was all dirty money to her. She worked odd jobs to make ends meet to support herself. Right now she was finally accepting the feelings she had for this guy she worked with. He would help her whenever she needed it, very nice and so dreamy. Before I knew it I had written two whole chapters and I felt great about it.

I put everything away and got out the book we were supposed to read for English class. I had a lot of catching up to do since I never finished yesterday's chapters.

"Laney the phone!" My mother yelled from downstairs. I sat my book down and rushed to the kitchen where our house phone was located. I wasn't sure who was calling me here.

"This is Lanaisa." I answered.

"Hi Laney it's doctor Shultz. How are you today?" She asked politely.

"Oh hi. Everything is good. Is something wrong?" I was confused as to why she was calling me at home.

"We found a few things in your blood work and wanted to know if you can come in for us to do another test. It's nothing to be alarmed about we just want to make sure you and that precious baby of yours are alright. When can you come in?" she asked,

"Um I can try tomorrow after school if that's okay." I lowered my voice not wanting my mother to hear.

"That's perfect. See you around say 3:15?"

"That will be good. See you tomorrow." I hung up and turned to see my mother standing there with a raised eyebrow.

"Who was that?"

"It was one of the nurses from school, she was letting me know I was eligible to donate blood tomorrow. Something to add to my list for college." I felt bad lying to her but I couldn't tell her, not yet. Hell if I could hide it forever I would.

"Okay well I'm about to start dinner, how do steak and potatoes sound?"

"Can I make the salad?" I asked excitedly, I loved steak and potato night.

"Have at it." She stepped into the kitchen to begin making dinner. I followed her inside and grabbed the big salad bowl and a bunch of things from the fridge.

"Do we have any more banana peppers?" I asked searching the shelves not finding any.

"No, I used the last of it yesterday on my sandwich."

I shrugged my shoulder and pulled the rest of what I needed being sure to add Banana peppers to the list taped onto the refrigerator. We continued to move around each other as we prepared our respective part of dinner. Once I was done mixing the salad, I placed the lid on top and set it in the fridge.

"I'm going to finish my homework, call me when everything is finished." I washed my hands in the sink and headed back upstairs to my room.
