“We’ll get back to you”
This is the fifth time she has heard this statement in the past three weeks of job hunting.
….“What is the essence of going to the university when all you get as a reward was unemployment and frustrating application processes,” she thought while walking on the street with a folder containing my credentials securely held to her side.
The typical life of a Nigerian graduate was frustrating she thought as she kept walking, but got lost in her thoughts that she didn’t notice the black Toyota Prado that was coming out from a building. At the sound of the 𝘭𝘰𝘶𝘥 𝘩𝘰𝘯𝘬, she snapped out of her thoughts and, quickly crossed to the other side of the road and boarded my next bus home, she was so done with this frustrating job hunt.
"Conductor gives me change nah!" a woman at the back of the bus called out.
She was quiet throughout the whole ride dreading the nightmare she called home, from her mum who pick a fight with her at the slightest chance to get an excuse to scream at the top of her voice to gain the pity and attention of the neighbors, to her siblings who are always on her neck for this or that.
A typical Nigerian home, where the responsibility of taking care of the home is inscribed on the first child whether male or female like the mark of the beast from the day of birth.

Seline! Seline!! Seline!!!She jerked up from the bed at the sound of her morning alarm (her mother’s voice) frowning at the reality of her life, it was just 5 am for heaven’s sake, but She has got to get her younger siblings ready for school and prepare to face what the day has for her.“Kachi come wear your socks” She called out to the youngest of her siblings; Kachi is a 10 years old fun-to-be-with yet very inquisitive child, he was very outspoken and observant unlike his older sister Amanda. Amanda is her 16-year-old sister who just wrote her WAEC (West African Examination Council) and thinks that the world is an open sky for all birds to fly, so she also thought too but not anymore since life served her a portion of its delicacy. She had just two siblings and I wanted them to have the best of everything She didn’t, but isn’t that one of her many wishes?Whew!! Finally done with her morning routine and time to start her job hunt, she thought to herself but today she’s gonna do it
He looked at himself once again at the rearview mirror once again; his eyes were bloodshot red, he was literally high and he knew it, but it was his only solution to giving a good performance. The paparazzi has already crowded his car so he needed to put on sunshades and pull up his hoodie and with the coverage of his well-built bodyguards, he maneuvered his way through the pressing crowd of paparazzi, and camera flashes. He got backstage patiently waiting to get called up.It wasn’t a long wait since he came in quite late.It only took his presence and a “what’s up guys? Are you ready to party hard?” to get the crowd going wild, a few blow kisses for the girls, and his signature smile to put them in a full-blown party mood. The performance went by quickly and he was grateful for every drop of alcohol that was in his system, It always did the magic.Leaving the restroom after splashing some water on his face after his performance, by now he was completely sober, it was time to treat
It has been two weeks since her first event ushering experience and she was already getting used to the job. Now preparing for her third event which is her last ushering job with Mr Charles as her supervisor, she couldn’t contain her excitement because she was tired of watching him treated her and her colleagues with no respect and less pay.Her friend Lya has moved to another agency, she wanted to join her but she couldn’t because she had to stay and pay for the damages she incurred on her first day as an event usher. With 20% of her pay being deducted, she had little or nothing to take back home but she was glad that she would complete the payment soon. She was done packing her bag with all she needed before getting dressed and start heading to their usual spot where they gather before being conveyed by a bus to the event place. She finished packing quite early so she decided to take her time and prepare for this event. She was done dressing and was adding finishing touches to her m
He paced from one end of his room to the other, why couldn’t he find his wristwatch? He has checked everywhere and can’t seem to find it. He decided to go with the Rolex watch he got two months ago that has been lying in the watch storage because it wasn’t his style, but he had no option but to go with it as he was running out of time. The crowd was buzzing with excitement as they wait for his arrival, the paparazzi were already stationed outside the entrance, cameras flashing and reporters clamoring for a quote. Fans are chanting his name, eagerly anticipating his arrival. The crowd erupts in cheers at the sight of his entourage, and security personnel spring into action, creating a pathway for him to enter. The car door opens, and he stepped out looking glamorous and poised. Dressed in a designer outfit, with complimenting well-trimmed haircut, he stepped onto the red carpet, and the crowd goes wild. Cameras flash incessantly as he makes his way down the red carpet. He stops to p
Seline didn’t know what to do, So, she simply bow her head and decided to act too busy. “Fine girl”, Seline called out to another waitress to switch places with her. She needed to leave that environment before he would recognize her. -------------------------------------- The party was in full swing, waiters and waitresses, impeccably dressed in crisp black and white uniforms, scurried across the room, expertly balancing trays laden with delicate champagne flutes and an array of delectable small chops. The clinking of glasses and the hum of conversation merged into a harmonious symphony, as guests mingled and exchanged pleasantries. A live band, stationed on an elevated stage, played a melodious jazz tune, setting the perfect backdrop for the festivities. The CEO, surrounded by a sea of well-wishers, smiled graciously, engaging in captivating conversations that echoed his sharp intellect and business acumen. The aromas of gourmet cuisine filled the air, tempting even the most dis
The sun's gentle rays peeked through the curtains, casting a warm glow across Amy's face as she stirred from her slumber. Her heart fluttered with a mix of excitement and nerves. Today marked a significant milestone in her journey—a year had passed since she had joined the Zion Groups, and now she stood on the precipice of a new chapter. With a deep breath, Amy rose from her bed and made her way to the window. The cityscape stretched out before her, a tapestry of possibilities. Today was her first day as the CEO of the Diamond Groups, a position she had earned through hard work, determination, and an unwavering belief in her abilities. As she dressed, each movement deliberate and purposeful, Amy couldn't help but reflect on the past year. Her time at the Zion Groups had been transformative, filled with challenges and growth. She had proven herself time and again, surpassing expectations and earning the respect of her colleagues. But now, she was returning to her roots, to the compan
Seline woke up that Monday morning with worries written all over her face. She didn’t know what to expect. “What would be her job description? Would she be able to keep up with being the PA to a celebrity?” Seline! Seline!! “You no dey go work?”, Seline’s mum screamed in pidgin English to her hearing as she jerked up. Ah! She is already running late and it is her first day working as a PA for Sweet. She quickly took her bath and got dressed wearing a pencil skirt and a chiffon top, it was one of her best sets of clothing and she hoped it meets Sweet’s standard. As she silently self-motivated herself, she got up to leave as she had only 30 mins to get to the address that was sent to her. Seline! her mother called Seline stopped on her track and turned in her mother’s direction. “Prepare to meet Mrs Veronica’s son this weekend, he would be coming back from Abuja on Wednesday.” Without saying a word Seline turned towards the door and left, she was already running late and didn’t
“could you walk faster!” Seline fastened her pace to catch up with the long strides of her new boss. Even with her effort to reach him, his long legs were doing no good, and he wasn’t even bothered if she was catching up or not. “You need to see this” Marcus Sweet’s manager passed him his phone. Sweet’s face immediately moved from cheerful to aggravated. “Can you move faster!” Sweet was now in a very bad mood, Seline couldn't understand why but she knows better than to say a word, so she followed his every instruction. As we got closer to his black Audi, was just thanking my stars that finally I’ll be dropping these shopping bags that weigh more than the weight of a cow because I was already exhausted from carrying the heavy bags on my shoulders and running after my boss “Get a cab and meet me in my house in 30 mins” Sweet snapped, his voice sharp and demanding. Seline looked around, unsure if he was speaking to her or someone else nearby. Before she could inquire, the engine of
