Chapter 6. Generous Man

Vincent closed his eyes, enjoying the sweetness of blood that should be disgusting to normal humans. The screams of pain were like a sweet song to his ears. He was happy to hear the dying roar of his victim. The extraordinary taste of blood was now washing away his dry throat.

While enjoying it, Vincent realized it and widened his eyes. He quickly let go of his bite, his mouth full of blood. The pickpocket went limp and fell to the ground, unconscious. Either he is dead or not.

“Uh, what happened to me? What did I do?” Vincent panicked. He swallowed the remaining blood many times in his mouth. Meanwhile, the old man he was helping carried Kyron to check on the situation.

"Sir?" he called to Vincent, who was standing aside. Vincent turned his back and wiped the blood with his wrist. The old man approached Vincent, who was a little confused. He had to find out what happened to him, but what?

“Sir, are you okay?” The man asked the confused Vincent. He wiped away the remaining blood before turning around and smiling.

"Yes, I'm fine." Vincent chuckled slightly, then turned to the two pickpockets who were lying motionless. Vincent then took Kyron from the man's arms.

“I thank you for your help. But it doesn't need to come to this," said the old man with sincerity. He glanced once again at the person lying on the ground before looking back at Vincent.

"I just want to help," answered Vincent, trying not to look too much at the man. The man still looked confused, and Vincent took the opportunity to leave with Kyron. The old man picked up his wallet on the ground before following Vincent.

“Wait, what's your name? Where are you going with your baby?” asked the old man intercepting Vincent.

“My name is Vincent Cox; this is Kyron.” Vincent glanced briefly at Kyron, even though he didn't say that the baby was his son. The old man smiled, then stretched out his hand.

“My name is Zachary Smith. I live not far from here. Would you perhaps be willing to have lunch at my house?” offered the man named Zach.

"Uh, I have to go home." A police siren suddenly sounded, and the car passed the road beside him. Suddenly, Vincent turned around to hide Kyron behind his arms. Zachary, who saw Vincent's behavior, was suddenly confused and curious. He knew something must have happened.

Luckily, the car just passed by and didn't stop. Vincent was breathing fast and looked scared. He also calmly hugged Kyron.

"You'd better come with me first. Once it's safe, you can leave," said Zachary suddenly. Vincent's brows furrowed when he turned to the old man. The man seemed sincere and willing to help.

"Okay," answered Vincent briefly. He walked, following the man, to an apartment building not far from the alley. This simple apartment building is quite safe from police pursuit.

Zachary Smith invited Vincent and Kyron into his apartment. Vincent sighed in relief, for being inside the building kept him safe from the sun.

“Sit down. I'll be back," said Zachary, taking off his hat. Vincent sat with Kyron, whom he placed on the dining table. Vincent's nose smelled something bad. Kyron looked upset, but he didn't cry.

“Why do I smell something rotten from you?” Vincent asked Kyron, who just grinned with drool dripping from between his fingers in his mouth.

"Now why have you laughed at me instead?" Vincent continued again, irritably. Kyron was still giggling. Vincent and Kyron's relationship grew closer after 24 hours together. Vincent's eyes roamed around the room again. Zach's apartment looks simple but mysterious. Vincent didn't think anything bad at all until Zach came back.

"Do you want to eat something?" Zach asked after returning to the living room, where Vincent was sitting with Kyron.

"No, thank you. I just ate.” Vincent answered while holding Kyron.

“I think I smell something." Zach's gaze shifted to Kyron.

“Did you check his diaper?” Zach asked, coming closer.

"Diaper? No," answered Vincent innocently. Zach smiled, then snorted softly.

“You better check your son's diaper. You know how to change a baby's diaper, right?”

For a moment, Vincent was confused about what was happening. How could he know all that? Vincent has never even been married. However, to avoid Zach's suspicion, Vincent nodded.

“Then you should check his diaper,” Zach pointed at Kyron. Vincent complied by checking the back, and the smell became stronger.

“Oh God! What the hell is this?! Ahhhhk!” screamed Vincent, almost throwing up. Kyron even laughed at Vincent's half-fainting. Since Vincent's sense of smell is getting sharper than normal, the smell of baby poop will torture him.

“What are you eating? Aaahhkk! I want to throw up!" Vincent ran into the kitchen and vomited in the sink. The funny thing is that Vincent vomited almost all the food he ate at the previous cafe. There was no trace of the human blood he had sucked.

“Are you okay, Mr. Cox?” Zach asked, approaching, a little worried about Vincent's condition.

"Yes, yeah!” Vincent nodded like a half-drunk man while washing his face.

"I'm sorry." Vincent turned around with a gasp and a look of confusion. Zach looked at Vincent suspiciously. It looked like Vincent was running from something.

"Are you the baby's father?" Zach asked, starting to get suspicious. Vincent was silent and stunned. What should he say if he gets caught?

"I..." Vincent fell into deep thought again. He can't go out now because the police are still hunting for him. Meanwhile, Vincent couldn't return to his apartment because the police would have searched the place.

“Yes, I just got divorced, and my ex-wife left with her boyfriend and left our child. So far, I've rarely been at home, and I'm not very good at looking after him," said Vincent, explaining what he thought was logical. He became good at lying, although Vincent was previously a rigid man.

"Oh, I see." Zach smiled slightly as he nodded in understanding.

"Still you have to change your baby's diaper."

“But I don't have money to buy diapers right now.” Vincent reasoned. Zach nodded with a smile.

“Just take it inside. I am a Priest. And recently, the church collected donations from generous congregants for the orphanage children. There are few things you can use for your baby," said Zach, offering his help.

Vincent smiled and nodded. It wasn't in vain that he helped someone this time.
