Mike stated, "There are good people everywhere."

It was the right thing to say at that time, and it could not be said to be comforting or critical.

Colleen was made to acknowledge him by these words.

Colleen stated, "You must leave before nightfall tomorrow," adding, "I could let you stay with me for a day to repay you for helping me."

Mike then replied, "Thank you."

He felt it was inappropriate for him to inquire about Colleen, despite his desire for additional details.
