Maeve’s POV

Two years ago

My decision to go with Lohki was one driven by pain and grief, but what choice did I really have?

I was rejected and cast away by my own mate. He didn’t even bother to look me in the eye when he banished me.

I guess I was just too insignificant for him to care. Maybe Lohki was right, maybe what I needed was revenge. I wanted to make them regret ever sending me away. I wanted to make them pay.

As I followed Lohki deeper into the forest, things became strange. It looked like the trees were moving, and it looked like the sky was staring right at me with strange colored eyes.

“What’s going on?” I asked before I slammed into his body.

“Oh sorry, you must not have known I would stop walking,” he said, smiling only with his eyes.

“Umm…no, and it didn’t help that my eyes were stuck on those two up there,” I said, but he didn’t bother looking up.

“That is Myra,” he said simply before he started walking again.
