Chapter 6. I'm sure her life will be better

(Ernesta POV)

The vicar raised his voice and looked over at Marcus.

I restrained my emotions. Although I didn't want to, this kiss was part of the ritual, moreover, it seemed that because I knew he was the man that night, I didn't object to him.

Marcus leans down slightly, I look up, my lips touching his, it feels like a small electric current runs down my spine.

At the same time, the vicar's voice sounded

"I declare that you two are husband and wife"

I was about to take a step back when I found my arm being held by Marcus. What surprised me was that he not only had no intention of stopping the kiss but seemed to want to deepen the kiss.

Is this man crazy or what? People were still standing there looking at us.

I gently scratched Marcus's hand with my index finger and stared at him with wide eyes, only then did he let go, his expression seemingly very satisfied. Yes, 'I'm happy, I'm happy, I'm satisfied', these are evident on his face.

Come to think of it, it's not wrong, he was the one who proposed this marriage. But I thought it was all for the sake of it, didn't expect him to really like Eulalia, but it seems that his feelings don't just stop at liking, he looks so excited.

Would a successful man like Marcus like a fake like Eulalia? No matter how you think about it, it doesn't make sense.

After the ceremony ended, my parents approached me, Amber looked at me with tears in her eyes and took my hand.

“Once you was a child and now you have to get married. In the future, without us around, remember to take good care of yourself. Don't be as spontaneous as before, if you don't understand something, just ask your husband, remember?"

Amber's 'mercy' look is no longer strange to me but still makes me feel surprised. She's really good at acting, if it weren't for the fact that I knew her well, I would have been fooled. If only Eulalia had inherited a bit of her mother's talent, she wouldn't have sold herself to be famous.

I patted the back of Amber's hand and smiled at her

"I know, mom rest assured"

Arthur also took a step forward.

“I have already sent someone to pack your things, everything is complete. Please remember to visit your parents a lot in the future."

I nodded and tilted my face slightly to Marcus. Men like him are rare, but I have met some people, who look at them calmly, but in fact, they have a lot of speculations in their heads. I guess he knew my parents were faking it, he didn't say it just because he wanted to give them one last bit of dignity.

But Arthur didn't seem to notice that he looked at Marcus.

“Son-in-law, I entrust my daughter to you, please ensure a happy and fulfilling life for Eulalia.”

I saw the corner of Marcus' lips pull up, he said with a cold expression, different from the expression when we kissed.

"Don't worry, I'm sure her life will be better than before."

As he spoke, he looked at me with a gentle expression that made it difficult for me to understand.

I felt that Marcus's statement had some meaning, but I couldn't figure it out.

At this point, Arthur seemed to want to say something, I guess about the project of the eastern urban area, but before he could open his mouth, Marcus turned to me.

"I have some business to do so I can't go home yet, Roger will take you home, are you okay with that?"

I nodded, and Marcus turned to my parents.

"I'm in a bit of a hurry so I can't meet you two, we'll talk about other things later."

Obviously, Arthur was not satisfied with this, but he still forced a smile

"Okay, work comes first, we can talk later."

Then he looked at me, I knew what that look meant, he wanted to talk to me privately after Marcus left.

Unfortunately, Marcus didn't let Arthur do it, he suddenly grabbed my hand

"Let me take you to the car.”

Somehow, Marcus had guessed Arthur's intentions, I'm sure that's why he did this on purpose. I didn't look at Arthur, but smiled lightly at Marcus and followed him.

Oh, what a delicate man, and yet he likes Eulalia, what a pity.

Without looking I can imagine the disgruntled and helpless faces of my parents, ha, a little gloating appeared in me.

Johansen’s Villa

As soon as I walked through the gate, Roger introduced me to the people in the mansion. Although this place is quite large, the number of people is not much, besides Marcus, there is an elderly housekeeper named Heli, and two security guards named Joe and Tom. Cleaners and gardeners will be hired to work at fixed times of the day.

I feel quite fortunate because of this, the more people I am around, the more easily my identity is revealed.

Roger is very serious in his work, when introducing everything to me, he is always smiling and is a friendly person.

"Heli is a housekeeper and chef, so if you need anything, just ask her. There aren't many maids here like in the old lady's house, if you want, you can hire more."

"Thanks but I don’t need"

I decline. I have lived with Silas without any help before, after all, being a single mother for five years, I can do many things on my own without help.

Seeing me say that, Roger didn't ask much but moved on to another matter.

“Ah, you don't have to worry about anything in this place, madam, just treat this as your home. Mr. Johanson is often busy, so he will come home late and sometimes not come home, I hope you understand this.”

“I understand. This hospitality is already too good for a contract bride like me.”

I am a person who understands my position, I will appreciate what I receive, if I do not receive anything, I do not ask for it. What is not yours is best not to dream. If you don't expect it, you won't be disappointed. That's how I've lived for five years now.

Roger looked at me strangely, as if he wanted to say something but in the end, he changed it to

"It's not too early now, today is the wedding day of you two, so surely Mr. Johansen will be back soon. I will leave first.”

I smile and nod. Roger bowed and left.

The villa fell into silence.

Since the wedding ceremony took place at sunset, everything became rushed.

I returned to the wedding room, removed my makeup, took off my wedding dress, and went to the bathroom. I know I'll do it with this man again tonight. Since he and I are now husband and wife, there is no reason to refuse this.

I still subconsciously have a little resistance to sleeping with a man I don't love, but at least that person is still Marcus, which is already a blessing that God has given me.

That person is my brother-in-law but also the father of my children.

I close my eyes, turn on the shower, and let the faucet wash away all my worries.

In the bathroom's frosted glass, my red hair stood out more than ever. Two days before the wedding, Eulalia asked me to have my hair extension and dyed auburn to look more like her, but because of my job, I refused and chose to wear a wig. More than that, I want to prank her for once.

What if Marcus finds out about my real hair? He would then assume that it was Eulalia's real hair and if Eulalia wanted to continue tricking him when she returned, she would have to cut the hair she was so proud of. Ha, that was my plan, a childish plan but it made me very happy, maybe because it was the only revenge I could do to her.

It's ridiculous, and it's also humiliating.

After showering, I dried my hair, put on a wig, and started my skincare steps even though I knew this was useless this evening.

As soon as I finished, the door to the room opened.

That man is back.
