Chapter 9. I won't let that happen

(Ernesta POV)

Heli says I can do whatever I want because I am Mrs. Johansen; from now on, this is my home.

After last night, I somewhat understood the man, Marcus, he was not like the rumors, but this result still surprised me. Even though we have registered our marriage, I am still just a bride exchanging benefits as an item in a trade, who would have thought that I could be so free? This is truly an unexpected pleasure.

While Marcus was not at home, according to my previous appointment, I went to pick up Silas.

As soon as I arrived, the boy ran up to me and hugged my leg, behind him was Neron.

"Mom, you're finally here."

“Good morning little man, how are you today?” I ask.

"Good, Uncle Neron takes good care of me," Silas replied.

I still have a smile on my face, but my mood is a bit down.

I understand Silas's personality, if he's really happy, he won't hide his feelings. As for this answer, it shows that Neron really cares about Silas but his days there must have been uncomfortable.

I looked at Neron, knowing that he was also in a predicament, so I didn't ask much.

"Thank you for taking care of Silas, I'll bring him now."

“No need for this, we’re family anyway.”

Neron smiled at me, hidden deep in his eyes was a sadness, a pity.

I don't know what happened in the Willems family in the past three days, but it seems to have changed Neron a bit.

After saying goodbye to Neron, I immediately took Silas to see Kathryn. Although I only asked her to take care of Silas, let alone get married, I could already imagine her reaction upon hearing this.

Kathryn was always the first to stop me whenever I tried to do some good for my parents and my twin sister. Although I know her words are not wrong, I almost never listen because I believe I can handle it well.

Sure enough, Kathryn slammed the table and stood up after learning that I was marrying Marcus Johansen instead of Eulalia.

“Ernesta, you, are, crazy. How can you trade your happiness for someone like that?”

“If not, what do you think I should do?” I gave a wry smile. “Kathryn, they use Silas, what other choice do I have? You know what Arthur can do.”

“Even if you did, you would still choose,” Kathryn snarled, she sat down and took a deep breath.

I knew she was angry because she was worried about me, but we both understood Arthur's threats were always only his first step, he never used his greatest strength. If he took that out to threaten, he would surely do it if I protested. And once he did, not only Silas but also Kathryn, who would be taking care of Silas right now, would also be in danger.

Kathryn frowned, sucking on a milk tea straw.

“But this is too much … Why don’t you call Larissa? If she came out, your father would definitely not dare to mess around."

I immediately shook my head.

“Arthur warned me in advance, if I dare talk to Larissa about this, he will make it impossible for me to meet Silas.”

If Larissa were here, I wouldn't be afraid of that threat, but she's overseas, so she can't act as fast as Arthur anyway.

"Moreover, it's very difficult for Larissa to find the right person, who makes her herself, I don't want to bother her." Larissa is almost forty but still not married, I really hope she finds her happiness.

Hearing that, Kathryn slumped down on the table dejectedly. After half a minute, she sighed.

“Is there no other choice? Ernesta, you can't live your life like that, not even Silas's."

As she spoke, she looked at Silas, who was playing with toys in the children's room, which was a layer of soundproof glass from us.

Looking at that small face, my mood suddenly sank.

“Not a lifetime. Besides… He's the boy's father."

"Huh? Who?" Kathryn suddenly turned to look at me.

“Marcus Johansen. He is the father of Silas.”

I dropped a name lightly. As expected, Kathryn rolled her eyes at me.

“You… he… f*** it, how can this be a coincidence? Are you sure you're not mistaken?"

I didn't answer, grabbed my phone, found a picture of Marcus, and held it up in front of Kathryn. From the scent Kathryn looked to the left the picture was Silas playing.

“This is too similar. Does he know that?"

Kathryn snatches up my phone, looking over and over at the picture of Marcus and Silas in amazement.

I understand why she reacted so strongly, I was surprised even as a biological mother. Silas is truly a mini version of Marcus.

I shook my head.

"I'm not going to let him know. This marriage only lasted six months, moreover, I can take care of Silas alone, he doesn't need a father, so this is not necessary."

“Silas doesn’t need a father, but how do you know if that man needs a son?” Kathryn looked at me seriously. “Ernesta, he's not some ordinary man you can just ignore, he's Marcus Johansen, what if he finds out about Silas's existence? "

"He won't find out," I immediately retorted, my voice affirmative. "I won't let that happen."

While Marcus' attitude towards me the other day wasn't bad, that doesn't mean that's who he really is. Those rumors didn't come naturally, even if they weren't true, they still showed that someone was targeting him. I will not let my son get involved in these dangers.

“Kathryn, right now I only have one relative, Silas, even if I risk my life, I won't put him in danger. So, this time I ask you to take care of Silas, and especially don't let him appear in places with Arthur and Johansen's people, I will try to solve the other side well. Okay?"

Seemingly convinced by my words, Kathryn took a deep breath and nodded.

“Okay, my parents like Silas anyway, let's let them practice being grandparents early. And you, if there's anything, remember to let me know, I'll help no matter what, don't bear it all on your own. Also, remember to protect yourself, Silas only has you."

Kathryn threatened me in a low voice.

"Haiz, this time is too much, Ernesta, if there is a next time I will call Larissa immediately."

I smiled and nodded.

That's right, not only do I need Silas, but Silas needs me too, no matter what, I can't leave him alone.

Honestly, I feel very lucky to have a friend like Kathryn. Obviously, she would also have trouble helping me, but she didn't mention it at all and always comforted and encouraged me. If I don't live well, it's her fault.

After making arrangements for Silas, I received a business message from Zelda. The day before the wedding, I went to see her reorganize work at Noble Dame, fortunately, she didn't ask the reason, otherwise it would be difficult to explain. Since I was the chief designer of Noble Dame, which was also its tenth anniversary this year, I was able to reduce my workload but could not take time off work, so Zelda allowed me to work from home on the condition that I needed to come to the company at least once a month and when it has important events.

I can't help but say, she created absolutely good conditions for me.

I found this a bit difficult at first but after last night it seems like I worry too much. Given the 'privilege' I got from Marcus, it probably wouldn't be a problem for me to go to work. However, work is not a game, wanting to change is change, moreover, to avoid risk, it is best for me to still follow the original plan.
