Amaris Lun

Regret, a feeling hated by many because of the helpless and powerless feeling of not being able to right their wrongs.

There were not many things Arya had come to regret in her life. Since she moved in with her grandmother after the death of her parents a few years back, she had lead a simple lifestyle. Not reaching for things that were out of her league, she had come a long way so far by not getting herself involved in complicated matters.

But only the Heavens knew why she decided to go out of her way to help someone today. All she wanted to do was to help, so why she staring at a terrifying beast in the face right now?! Arya thought, as she stood star struck in front of one of the girls' bathroom stalls.

She saw a flash of lightning heading towards her, it didn't touch a hair on her body but she later found out that the lightning had somehow burnt a hole through one of the doors in the bathroom.

Arya's first instinct was to run, but her curiosity urged her to stay and see what was lurking behind the door, and so she did.

'I'll just take a tiny peek and get out of here,' she thought.

However, there's a saying, 'Curiosity kills the cat' for a reason and in this case, she was the cat.

So she slowly walked to stand in front of the burnt bathroom door and gingerly raised her hand to push it open when she heard a low growl make its way to her ears.

Fear struck through her body when she heard the sound, she heard it, she definitely heard it, a sound that only a wide animal could make. Her body trembled slightly at the thought of being ripped to pieces by a wide animal.

Feeling lucky and grateful that she didn't make the big mistake of opening the door, she quickly placed her hands down so she could get out of this place and report to the security.

But it was like fate wanted to pull a fast one on her, as her palm brushed the burnt door when she rushed to put it down, causing the door to open with a creek that she didn't realise was creepy till today.

She really wanted to run, but it seemed her previous decision of not staying to know what was behind the door did not satisfy her curious mind making her legs stay put like it got glued to the ground. At least that was the only thing she could think of right now. The other reason being fear, yep it was definitely fear, she thought with a gulp.

The door continued to slowly reveal what was behind it till she had a complete view that made her feel her breath leave her lungs.

And now she was staring at an animal right in the face.

Staring wide-eyed at the animal, no that wasn't an animal but a beast. With thick and long fangs thicker than that of a lion, sharp looking claws that were almost as long as her school ruler, fur that didn't look like it had been cut in years or centuries and two red orbs that were shining so bright, even the thick fur couldn't hide them.

Wait- orbs? Arya, forgetting her current situation snapped her head to observe the red 'orbs' that were now staring at her right in the face. She suddenly remembered the many times her mother warned her, whenever she got in trouble for nosey-ing about.

"It's not in every situation you poke your nose into, Arya. Most times you just have to look away, it will save you a lot of trouble sweetie." She would say before she tapped her nose and kissed her on her cheek. Her young, inquisitive mind didn't understand it then till now.

It wasn't her fault though, there hadn't been many things that had made her this curious since her parents died and the warning her mother incessantly drilled into her ears had long since faded only to come back clearer than before as she stared at the beast's red orbs.

When her eyes further scanned the situation in the stall, she realized the beast was sprawled on the floor with one of its' legs stuck in the toilet. Probably irritated that she was staring at it shamelessly in such an embarrassing situation, she heard the anima- beast threateningly growl at her a second time revealing its long array of very sharp teeth.

And before she knew it, she was running out of the bathroom as fast as her legs could carry her. 'Really, you decided to move now?!' she thought as she glared at her legs.

Raising her head back up to focus on escaping, she ran from the bathroom to the hallway like her life depended on it, well it definitely did. The legs of that animal was still stuck in the toilet, so the guarantee of her leaving there alive, definitely depended on how fast her legs could carry her out of the school to get the security's attention.

Yes- the security!

Why didn't she think of that?!

"Help! Security! Someone help!" Arya began to yell, trying to draw the security's attention to the school building.

Cussing Matt and Kevin to their 18th generation for putting her into this mess, she was about to keep yelling for the security when she suddenly heard steady and loud thumps heading towards her.

Arya didn't need anyone to tell her that she was being followed by the beast but wasn't the beast stuck in the toilet how did it get out?! Oh yeah, it was a 'beast', it could easily rip the toilet bowl off the floor, she thought in terror as she cursed her luck as to why her class was on the fourth floor in the five floored school building.

Running down the staircase, she finally sighted the main entrance on the ground floor and breathed a sigh of relief. She cleared her throat, readying her vocal cords to yell for the security again when she felt something lift her into the air.

Arya didn't know what was going on till she was seeing eye to eye to a terrifying beast baring its fangs and sharp teeth at her earning a very loud scream from her. At least that's what she thought it was but the beast placed it's hairy paw on her neck and now she couldn't make a sound.

She tried to speak severally but it was like she suddenly became mute and the thought terrified her. Glancing at the beast that was currently watching her with its red eyes, she gulped thinking it was about to rip her head off her shoulders and become beast food when it surprised her by placing her down against a wall gently.

Why would a beast treat her gently? Do wild animals treat their prey gently to make them feel comfortable before devouring their body and soul in the most ghastly way possible?

Arya was still in a reverie till her attention was called back by the beast that paced back and forth in front of her, grunting as it did. She didn't know what it was trying to do but before she knew it, another ray of light flashed before her eyes and she suddenly found herself and the beast surrounded by a blue coloured sphere.

She was still trying to process everything when the beast stopped pacing, sat and stared right at her. A few seconds passed when she heard a voice,

"My name is Amaris Lun. It's nice to meet you."

Glancing left and right with a shaky breath, Arya tried to decipher where the pleasant baritone voice came from causing the beast to tilt its head in confusion wondering if the human didn't hear him.

He knew about the existence of humans, there were more than enough stories back in his world but he just couldn't understand why she looked at him like he was going to eat her. Like right now, she glanced around after he introduced himself looking for who knew what and now she's back to looking at him like a frightened rabbit would.

Was he that scary? Didn't they have people of this form in their world as they had humans in theirs? He thought as he glanced at his hairy/furry self.

Snapping back to reality, he tried introducing himself again. Maybe if he did it in a nicer and more amiable tone, she'd acknowledge him? One thing he had learnt from the human world was first impression matters and he needed to leave a good first impression so he could ask for her help.

This human was the only one present when he came into this world so she must be the guardian of this world's portal and would definitely know how he could get back to his world.

If only he knew that he had already made a gigantic first impression on Arya and it wasn't a pleasant one.

So with a reignited determination to find his way back home, he introduced himself to Arya again, "Hello, human. My name is Lord Amaris Lun. It's nice to meet you."

This time, Arya definitely heard the voice again and who or what it came from. Staring in shock, she heard the wild ani- beast speaking to her with its fangs and sharp teeth revealing themselves with each word it spoke.

Not getting any response from the human on the second try, Amaris was confused for a sec when he remembered that he placed a spell on her when she tried to scream.

Moving closer to her, he placed a paw on her neck to release her voice.

"I'm sorry for treating you like this but I really hate noise and you were practically screaming your lungs out. So I'm sorry if I offended you." Amaris said apologetically with a little bow of his furry head.

As Arya stared back at the top of this animal's head, she couldn't help but ask, "What?" surprised that she had her voice back. She had seen and heard things that were out of this world today. She couldn't wait to home and tell her Nana all about it, if she made it out alive.

Amaris rose his head up and gave what he thought was a smile to Arya when in reality, it was just a beast baring its teeth at a prey, causing Arya to almost break down in tears.

"Please don't kill me. I'm not delicious at all, I taste very horrible." She said, which made Amaris a bit dismayed. He would never eat a human, he still loved his rabbit kebab the most. However, it seemed he would achieve nothing if he was still in this form so he did something that took Arya's breath and voice away without the use of a spell.

He stood up and chanted some words when a bright light suddenly shot on him from who knew where and enveloped him causing Arya to squint her eyes shut.

When the last of the light had disappeared from Arya's sight, she opened her eyes carefully to see the most handsome human she had ever seen in her life standing right in front of her with a smile that took her breath away.

"May I reintroduce myself, human?"

"Amaris Lun, nice to meet you."
