CHAPTER 2

Gracia’s POV

“Was father being serious?” I turned to Stella who followed me down to the lake.

It had the full moon resting on it and the water was still.

“Master seemed serious, he wouldn’t joke in such a situation.” she began.

“While coming here, I heard from the Betas that Master requested an urgent meeting tomorrow morning.” She informed me seriously.

“This is….” I paused.

I have always wanted to lead right from childhood but my father was against it because I was a woman, they felt men are worth the throne rather than women. Since I couldn’t rule, I decided to join in battles and take charge of the Gammas and Omegas in the pack. I never thought one day light would shine at my side, everything felt surreal.

“You should be happy, my lady.” Stella’s voice broke the silence, I faced her.

“You have always wanted leadership and your father is passing it unto you.” she paused and rubbed her chin as though she was thinking.

“But the question is, are you ready to shoulder such a burden? You are just twenty six and we have about thousands of wolves to take care of.” she questioned me cryptically before locking eyes with me, I sighed heavily as I sat on the dry grass while staring at the lake.

“I think so…. or not?” as if planned, we smirked.

“I knew you will become a leader as my spirit grew rapidly these few months, you must be ready.” she urged me with a small smile on my face.

“Will they accept me? You know they have always been against women being the ruler.” I complained sadly.

“And when have you cared about that?” she raised a brow and I smirked.

“You know me best.” I smiled heartily.

“You must be prepared for the worst tomorrow. Both good and bad, and I will always stand by your side.” she assured me with a warm smile and I nodded.

“Thank you.” I stood up and brushed my butts.

“It’s getting cold, let’s get in.” I informed her and she grabbed my hand, and we left the lake back to our chamber.

All through the night, I couldn’t sleep because I was worried and anxious. Same for Stella, she was my spirit and since I was unrest she couldn’t have peace during the night.

Morning came faster as I wanted it and Stella was the first to wake me.

“Wake up, dear Alpha.” she poked my cheek and I woke up laughing like a clown.

“You are ridiculous.” I yanked at her and she fell above me, we laughed hard.

“When is the meeting?” I asked her.

“Master sent his servants to bring this dress for you. It will start in an hour.” she informed me before pointing at the dress on the table.

“Father is serious about this.” I couldn’t believe it even when it was happening.

I would be the first woman leader to rule in history to rule as Alpha in Wind Scarlet pack.

“We should start preparing, My Lord.” She said with sarcasm in her voice, I smirked.

“Yes, my advisor.” We burst into laughter as she brought the basin of water closer to me.

By the time we arrived at the main hall, it was already filled with almost half of the pack werewolves. They were staring at my father who sat on his throne without speaking.

I walked to my seat and sat down unnoticeable, Stella stood behind me.

“Since we are here, let’s begin.” My father’s voice evaded the entire hall, I squeezed my hand against the other.

“Our lord, your health is failing and our enemies won’t waste any time to invade us. We need a new Alpha.” one of the elder Betas cried out while on his knees.

“But, since you don’t have a male heir, it will be best to appoint a brave Beta that has made accomplishments and brought victories to the pack.” another elder suggested courteously.

My father nodded his head as he listened to their rants and agitation, where I was seated, I almost got caught up by tension but Stella’s words of encouragement and assurance kept ringing in my head.

“Who said only males could rule?” my father’s loud voice caused everyone to fall silent, they faced him anxiously.

“We also have female queens, don’t you know?” he raised a disgusting brow at them and they had no guts to raise their face.

My father has always been beside me, protecting me and fighting for my rights. Of course, I was also strong and never gave in to defeat but nothing was sweeter than family protection.

“My Lord, please choose wisely. We have strong betas that have been training for this position.” they informed him in unison while bowing their heads.

Too bad, my father wasn’t shaken. It was as though he prepared for all these just like I did.

He rose from the throne and my mother and I followed suit as a sign of respect.

“I have already made my decision and also the heir to my throne.” he began.

“The person was handpicked by me and I assure you that the person will do their best.” he said looking at everyone until his eyes dropped at me.

“The new Alpha of Wind Scarlet pack is…” fear and anxiety locked everyone’s eyes.

“Lady of Honour, Gracia.” he announced vividly and everyone froze in shock.

Smile enveloped my lips as I turned to my father.

“I’m ready for this.” I said inwardly, he nodded as if he could hear my thoughts.

“But my lord….” one of the Beta wasn’t in adjournment with my father’s decision, he wanted to revolt but my father interrupted him.

“Our new Luna is my daughter and she is fit to rule!” His last word gave me courage as I left where I was sitting and walked up to the higher platform.

All eyes were on me, waiting for what I had to say and how to address them.

“I will be the new Alpha of this pack and rule better than my father did.” I said vividly, as strange confidence took over me. My father nodded, looking impressed but I felt that wasn’t all.

Can I really rule the pack? I was anxious and afraid until my father placed a hand on my shoulder.
