Chapter 3

CHAPTER 3

Gracia’s POV

“Dad, do you have to make me the Alpha?” I questioned my father as we walked in the evening.

“Who else can I entrust my pack to if not my blood?” he quoted ironically, I listened to him without disrupting.

“I don’t want to hand it over to a tyranny or a greedy person.” He faced me.

“Do you want a situation whereby we wake up one night and lose our life to someone that doesn’t value peace.” he stared at me anxiously, waiting for my response.

“Father…” I was dauntlessly speechless.

“Yes, I trust you not because you are my daughter but because you have proved yourself to me on a daily basis.” he said affirmatively, nodding his head.

“Father…” I didn’t know if I could cry or smile, but it was actually tears of joy as I embraced him tightly.

“Father, get well soon.” I whispered closer to his ear.

“You have the pack in your hands now, even our lives. Do whatever you want to do with it.” he urged me.

“I will never fail you, father.” I bowed.

“But you know, you are only risking our daughter’s life.” my mother’s bickering voice came up.

We almost forgot she was with us, we turned to her still holding hands.

“What do you m….?” My father couldn’t finish his statement when he started shaking, immediately, we grabbed him.

“Mum, what’s happening?” I questioned anxiously and she looked frozen.

“The doctor told him he could only stand still for a couple of hours. I think he overworked himself.” she explained to me rashly as Stella rushed in with some guards.

“Take him to his chamber, quickly and call the physician.” I instructed them seriously.

I wasn’t allowed to meet my father because of the activities at hand that needed my attention. I took over cases and settled disputes between internal and external packs.

The elders and a few Betas were getting used to me but not all of them but I didn’t give attention to it.

It has been a week since I took over the throne from my sick father, one of the Beta, Lawson, followed me into my studies.

“What do you mean by we have to go to war?” he fired at me with disrespect.

“Your father maintained peace all throughout these years, why are you trying to start war?” He questioned me in annoyance, so I turned to him.

“That was my father! You have to get used to my leadership.” I spat at his face.

Though he was elderly, he wasn’t acting like his age and he was among the Betas that had been on my neck.

“We have shared treaties, equally sent relief to his pack but he refuses to take heed and sign peace, what else do you want us to do?” I raised a brow.

“We have to use the hard way to follow him else he will continue to drain everything we have, don’t you understand?” I asked seriously, staring at his face.

He rolled his eyes disgustingly.

“I knew all these will happen during your leadership because women are prone to be emotional! And lack serious thinking!” he insulted me without thinking.

“If it was my son, he would have done better than you!” he yelled at my face, pointing his thin finger at me. I swallowed the humiliation because it came with leadership, I can’t afford to be weak at heart and fast for vengeance.

“I think your father is the stupid….” he didn’t finish his statement when Stella slapped him hard on his cheek, she was my spirit and was faster than me.

I can accept any insult and fight but when it has to do with my father, I don’t allow people to stumble on him like a fool.

“How dare you!?” his hands were supporting his cheek as he looked at me in fury.

“Never. I repeat, never in your dreams ruin my father’s fame!” I shouted at him in anger.

“How dare this little…” he had no regret and wasn’t ready to apologize for his rude behavior.

“Someone!” I called out and some Gamma guards rushed into my studies.

“Take him out! Drag him out of here to the prison and don’t let him out unless I give an order!” I commanded vividly, they bowed and dragged him out.

He wailed with a loud voice and continued laying curses on me before he was entirely out of my studies. Stella approached me.

“I think he is annoyed, his son Amos has been training to become the Alpha after your father’s dismissal…” Stella informed me sadly.

“I understand him but he wouldn’t have acted so unruly, especially tainting my father’s reputation.” I sighed heavily as I took my seat.

“Right? I gave him a hot slap just as you wanted.” she winked at me, looking proud and I smirked.

“Yeah, you did good there.” I encouraged her.

“My lady, there’s something I heard from the elders when coming here.” she began looking all serious, I focused on her.

“And, what could that be?” Curiosity lingered in my eyes as I looked at her.

“It was something about a female Alpha though, that was why I got interested.” she said and I nodded, urging her to continue.

“They said that the only way to take you down was to get you married to your mate, but none of them know your mate. It will be a huge crime if you are mate-less, being mate-less means you can’t become an ….” she didn’t finish her statement when I quickly closed her mouth with my hand. She mumbled, trying to struggle from the bondage until I let go of her mouth.

“Don’t… don’t say that.” I was scared.

That was my vulnerability and I was afraid that my past was almost catching up with me.

“What do we do, my lady?” she asked in a whispering tone and I shook my head.

“I really… don’t know.” I felt so frigid and confused for the first time.

“My lord!” a loud voice called and we reacted startled as a result of her formal frantic conversation.

It was Noah, the right-hand man of my father who was now working under me. He walked towards me in a flit step.

“What is the matter? You look impatient.” I tried to embrace my lingering fear as I stared at him in anxiety.

“I don’t know what to call this news, if it's bad or good.” he shook his head and I smirked.

“Just shot.” I instructed him.

“We got a marriage proposal for you, it’s from Alpha Moses.” he informed me vividly and my jaw dropped.

“Alpha what?” My heart sank at the sound of his name.
