Chapter 17

Thomas locked me inside a room for the entire day. He claimed it was safer for me to remain there while he dealt with the rogues outside, eliminating them one by one, and attending to our guests.

I remained in my wedding gown, sitting on the comfortable cushion in our room, staring out the window. Below, I could witness the fury of the rogue attack.

They ruined our wedding.

"Cina!" I shouted as I saw the head handmaiden entering my room.

"Where is my husband?! Has he returned?!" I asked immediately, grabbing her shoulders. She heaved a deep sigh and looked at me with concern. "Queen Margareth, please be patient. His Highness Thomas will return once he has settled the dispute with the rogues."

"But it's been three hours since he left, Cina! I can't just stay here and do nothing!"

"Your Highness, he will be alright," she whispered calmly.

I found it impossible to remain as calm as she was!

"We can't be certain of that! Please, Cina, let me go out and see my husband!"

Cina shook her head.
