Chapter 38

Alastair' Pov.

As I entered the room, I saw Clara lying on a hospital bed, hooked to various machines and tubes. Her face was pale and her eyes were closed. She looked so fragile and vulnerable, like a porcelain doll that could break at any moment. I felt a surge of emotions as I walked towards her. I felt anger at the rogue who had hurt her, guilt for not being there to protect her, fear of losing her and our pup, and love for her as my mate and the mother of my child.

I reached her side and gently took her hand in mine. It was cold and limp, but I could feel a faint pulse. I brought it to my lips and kissed it softly. "Clara, my love, can you hear me?" I whispered in her ear. "Please wake up, please. I need you. We need you." I begged her, hoping that she would open her eyes and smile at me.

But she didn't. She remained still and silent, as if in a deep sleep. I felt a tear roll down my cheek as I looked at her. How could this happen to us? We were supposed to be happy, to start
