When they had lost communication it meant they had no control over Jace for those few short hours and they did not want to take the risk so it was better to be safe than sorry.

As usual ‘They’ knew all the platitudes and used them relentlessly hoping to put enough doubt in the Worker's minds to justify what they planned to do. Of course, they understood that this upset his workers tremendously, they had worked with Jace since he was a young puppy. He had given loyal exemplary service for ten years, they loved him dearly he was a gentle, loving German Shepherd who welcomed them every day with a joyously wagging tail.
