Megan’s expression was collected, but I knew she was dead serious. For the first time since we became a public couple, I decided to let her speak for herself because I was also curious as to whether what she was saying was true.

“My husband would never,” my mother attacked Megan, then gave her a condescending look. “Not for a nobody like you.”

I felt the urge to snap at her, but I controlled myself, secretly clenching my fists. My mother had become an enemy. When I took over the mantle of power, I thought she would support me, protect me, and fight for me, but the reverse was the case.
