Chapter 7

Charlotte occasionally lied to her friend, but none of the lies she had told till now were as big as this one. She felt bad but she just wasn't ready to tell her yet. She wasn't even sure if Elijah and Amara would ever meet so what was the point, her friend hadn't bothered to know who she was staying with anyway so she didn't tell her.

She stared down at her phone and wondered where she had heard the name of the street before. She opened Maps on her phone and typed in the address. Elijah had sent her, his office address and since she had seen him near the Starbucks she was at, she figured his office wouldn't be that far.

And luckily for her it wasn't.

She stared away from her phone after she made sure she had the right building. She couldn't help the shock, this was where he worked? The building had at least 40 floors if not more and she was sure it was one of the buildings she could see from her bedrooms window.

She thought if this was a good idea. Here she was dressed as a freak about to enter a building filled with business people, who basically wore suits and skirts to bed. She couldn't help the awkwardness and embarrassment that clouded her as she walked towards the entrance. She really wanted to turn around but she promised him she'd listen to what he had to say.

She walked towards the beautiful receptionist that stood behind her desk in the middle of the floor, wondering how she could do this? Basically everyone could see her, there was no privacy. Charlotte cleared her throat making the woman look away from her computer screen. "Good morning, welcome to Maddox's Corporation. What can I do for you?"

Charlotte was at lost of words, she didn't even know the man's last name how was she supposed to tell her who she was going to see. "Umm...I'm here for Elijah, I don't really know his last name." She frowned when the receptionist stared at her wide eyed.

"Do you have an appointment?" Charlotte was shocked by the sudden change of tone, it's as if the receptionist was possessed by a demon. Her eyes were narrowed as she regarded Charlotte with envy and disgust. Charlotte nodded wordlessly making her scoff in annoyance before she returned her eyes to the computer screen.

She stood there waiting for her to speak but it's as if she had forgotten Charlotte was even waiting. Charlotte cleared her throat making the brunette look up with an eye roll. "I'm sorry but unfortunately I don't see any appointments." She was laying, how could she know if she had an appointment or not, if she hadn't even bothered to ask her name.

"Check under Charlotte Richards." If the bitch wasn't bothering to be professional why should Charlotte be? Her new friend rolled her eyes again making Charlotte wish they get stuck in her head. She glared at the brunette before staring at her name tag, she was all about girl power, but this bitch was being a bitch for some absurd reason that she couldn't figure out. She was going to rant her out to the one person she could. Maybe he'd speak some sense into her.

"I don't see any Charlotte here, sorry." She faked a smile making Charlotte clenched her jaw.

"Thank you." She faked one of her own, before unlocking her phone and calling Elijah. She felt like a child ranting out her bully's but he wanted to see her and she wanted to see him. She might've missed him a little.

"Charlotte, is there a problem?" She couldn't help but frown when she heard her name instead of his nickname, maybe he had changed his mind about letting her stay with him. Oh god, was she going to return back to Macedonia with her parents. She was at lost of words, her eyes widened as she quickly hung up. She needed to get out of here. Now!

She quickly started making her way towards the front doors but before she could reach it two body guards called out to her. She stopped in her steps and stared wide eyed at them, was she going to get arrested?

"Miss, Mr. Maddox wants us to accompany you to his office." One of the two spoke, she couldn't help but feel like a child. They were almost twice her size with wide shoulders.

"W-Who's Mr. Maddox?" She questioned as fear sinked in, "I swear I didn't do anything wrong I was just leaving." She tried to reason with them, she saw the one on her right try to hide his smile before he spoke.

"You didn't do anything wrong Miss." He spoke in amusement, "he just wanted to make sure you wouldn't run away again." Her cheeks instantly turned red as she realized who they were talking about.

"Oh, okay." Was all she could muttered before they started escorting her towards the elevators that stood at the end of the hall. She wanted to stick her tongue out at the woman who stared wide eyed at her.

Once in the elevator she felt to awkward to just silently stand there. "So, Mr. Maddox is the CEO am I right?" She was completely taken by surprise at the news, she saw the darker skinned one nod before he adverted his eyes again. "And you guys work for him?" She couldn't help but ask the most obvious questions. She saw them nod again and luckily not seconds later the elevator pinged letting them know they had arrived.

She gulped when she saw at least hundred heads turn towards her and stare. She kept her eyes on the ground making sure she wouldn't fall and embarrass herself even further. As she followed behind the men, she was too engrossed on her feet to even noticed they had stopped walking until her head collided with a chest.

"Shit." She muttered as a slight migraine started forming in her head. She looked up ready to apologize when she saw the man she hadn't seen in two days. "E-Elijah." She squeaked like a child before clearing her throat.

He smirked down at her, "This time I caught you, tesoro." There it was, she couldn't help the smile.

"I-I wasn't trying to run away I promise. The woman downstairs said you were busy." She tried to reason making Elijah shush her as he spoke to the securities making them bid farewell to Charlotte before they walked away.

She felt so out of place, everyone was still looking at them and as if sensing it Elijah cleared his throat and placed his hand on her lower back before guiding her towards the end of the hall where a double door stood with his last name on it.

She knew he was walking slow because otherwise she wouldn't be able to keep up with him. She gulped when he pushed the door open and gestured for her to go in first. "Whoa." She couldn't help the reaction his office was beautiful. She thought back to all those books she had read and she was sure none of them offices could compete with this.

"You like it?" She heard his voice near her ear making her breath hitch. She cleared her throat as her cheeks heated up when he placed his hands on her arms.

"Y-Yeah." She cleared her throat again, as she thought of how pathetic she was. Was she really turned on just by his touch? He had touched her before but this time it felt different. She knew that, and she couldn't help but hope for something forbidden to happen. She would totally allow it, she was sure of it. What made matters worse was the office: one of her sexual fantasy flashing through her vision.

She really tried to keep her desires in and she hoped he would just talk and be done with this conversation so she could get the hell out of here. But suddenly she was turned around with him standing only inches away from her before he leaned down.

This was it, Charlotte thought. The moment she had waited for what felt like eternity.
