Chapter Four: Insult

ADAM went back to his swivel chair and started working, but his gaze kept drifting towards Ruby.

He gulped audibly when he saw her with glasses on. It looks hot on her. He cursed himself as he felt that it turns him on.

He’s about to cursed again but he was surprised seeing Ruby standing in front of him. Ruby is now smiling from ear to ear.

"What do you want?" he asked that full of annoyance in his voice.

"Oh, sorry for disturbing you, sir. I thought you need something that's why I hurried to-"

"Shut up! I'm busy working here! Go back to your table and continue working! Remember, i'm your boss...so you need to obey me!"

"Busy working or you're busy talking to your small pet?" she asked that there's a hint of teasing in her voice.

Adam smirked. "Tss, you know very well that this is contradict to the size that you've mentioned. Unless, you'd like me to remind you of the explicit phrases you uttered during our intimate encounter."

"Shut up, maniac!"

"Oops, watch your words, Miss Castillo. I'm your boss!" His smile broadened when he saw her cheeks turning red. He held back his laughter as she marched back to her table.

Hell...i'm enjoying this more than I should.

RUBY was engrossed in her work the whole day. She was so absorbed that she did not notice that it was already getting dark outside. If Adam hadn't approached her, she wouldn't have stopped working.

She swiftly organized her belongings and rushed out of the office. She assumed Adam has left, but she was taken aback to see him standing outside the office as if he was waiting for someone.

"I'm leaving, Sir Adam." She passed him by and quickly walked towards the elevator.

She thought she could escape from Adam, but he quickly stepped in before the elevator door closed. Annoyed, she crossed her arms over her chest.

"So, why are you crying earlier?" he asked as the elevator started to move. "Not that I care but you're my secretary." he added.

"Sir Adam, i'm just your secretary and my personal life is not for your consumption." She answered while raising her eyebrows.

Adam sarcastically smiled at her. "Yeah, I know that. You're nothing...you're just my secretary. But i'm curious what made you shed a tear."

She shrugged. "I didn't shed any tears earlier."

A startled scream escaped her lips as he abruptly pulled her towards him. She fought against his grip, placing both hands on his chest and pushing with all her strength. However, instead of moving away, he pressed her even harder against the closed elevator door.

"A-Adam, let go of me!"

He pressed his lips on her. When she felt his hot mintry breath on her lips, her body instantly tingled in anticipation and she hated herself for it.

He look at her deeped in the eyes. "Will you answer my question, or should I repeat what I did to you earlier? And I won't go back to the CCTV room to get the footage. In that case, other employees will humiliate you."

"What? Did you get the cctv footage? Did you do that for me?" she asked.

Instead of responding, he let go of her and took a step away from her. Ruby stood properly and looked straight into his eyes. "Did you really do that for me?" she asked again, still referring to the cctv footage.

He shook his head and met her gaze. "No! I did that for myself. I just simply don't want the other employees to see me getting romantically involved with my mere secretary."

She felt like she's being pinch in her chest because of what he said.

She laughed bitterly. " Yes, I'm maybe just a mere secretary, but you know what Sir Adam, you enjoyed fucking this secretary in the backseat of your car."

"Don't flatter yourself." He chuckled in a way that seemed to be taunting. "I always fuck my women in the back of my car."

Ruby felt like she was doused with cold water upon hearing those words. Luckily, the elevator doors opened just at the moment, and Adam stepped out ahead. He didn't notice the tear that fell on his cheek. So she quickly wiped it away.

"Why do all men are asshole?" she asked herself. Taking a moment to fix herself, she made sure she looked presentable before stepping out the elevator. Unexpectedly, she saw Danrick in the lobby, the only male colleague she had a close relationship with at the company. He is the Head of the Administrative Department.

"Hey, Ruby! Did you cried? You're eyes-"

She force to gave him a weak smile. "I'm okay, Danrick."

He rolled his eyes, not believing her.

"Tss, i'm okay!" she exclaimed to convince him.

He looked at her intently and extended his arm. "Let's go, I'll give you a ride to your apartment since I'm heading home anyway."

She smiled at him. It's not force this time. "Thanks, Danrick!"

"You're always welcome, Ruby." he smiled at her and winked.

He playfully tousled her hair and draped his arm around her as they strolled towards the ground floor. She didn't feel uneasy with his arm draped around her, coz it is being used to it, particularly because Danrick would casually do the same with any employee. For her, there was nothing malicious about it, unlike Sapphire who would assume that there was something going on between them just by seeing Danrick smile at her.

When they got to the parking lot, he even opened the car door for her and bowed. "Hop in, your highness." He said with a fake British accent.

She hopped into his car while laughing. She buckled her seatbelt and sat down properly.

"Do you want to eat something before I drop you off at your apartment?"

"Hmm, yeah sure."

"Good. No worries, it's my treat." He said then he started his car engine.

They are about to leave the groundfloor when a black SUV suddenly sped past them, overtake them to the exit of the parking lot. She was taken aback, her eyes widened. Danrick, on the other hand, cursed loudly, furious at the SUV's driver. Ruby was filled with anxiety as she watched the car moving away. If she wasn't mistaken, that SUV belonged to Adam, but she chose to remain silent rather than to add Danrick's anger.
